The water pump began to leak three weeks after a dealer replaced it,
on my purchased brand new off the showroom floor (Nov. 97) 98 SVT.

This happened November 2002.

I never intended for it to sit until now but that’s the way things go.

So how to I get the gasoline out of the tank???

It has an odor more like varnish than anything else.
I have a replacement fuel filter to install.

Other than changing the oil & filter what should I do before firing it up?

Oh and R1 (the white one) fuse isn't in the engine compartment power distribution box. I can't imagine how it could have been removed...
Anyone with an early SVT know if this is supposed to be there? If so I'll pick one up before connecting a new battery.

Thx in advance.

That's just it, it shows R1 as powering all the engine controls...

So, how best to drain all the turpentine from the fuel system?

pump out the filler for the gas tank and dispose of correctly, chang ethe oil and the filter, check everythign to make sure it will work correctly and then fire it up .... not sure if you can run the oil pump by itself but that would be a great idea

Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter and put a piece of rubber hose on it to a gas can and remove the fuel pump relay, insert jumper wire from power to the fuel pump. This will make the fuel pump run continuously pumping all the gas (varnish) out of the tank. I'd do that once then put a couple of gallons of fresh gas in and reconnect the fuel filter and move to the fuel rail connection under the hood, flush the whole system then you should be ready to go.

Of course change the oil, coolant, etc.......

There is no way to prime the oil system like in an old distributor type engine so the best thing to do is disable the ignition and fuel and crank the engine over for a bit to get the fresh oil circulating before starting it.

When my dad and i would restart a car after it sat for a year or two we would always try to turn the engine by hand first with a 1/2 drive and socket just to make sure the engine hasn't siezed. Its just nice to know everything moves the way it should before the key turns.

for that what you can do is disconect the ignition so it will crank over but not fire. that way you can prime the motor with oil. thats what me and my buddys do when we take are cars out of storge

I just want to know how many miles are on the car...

Hey Winky3, welcome to the boards! My car sat for the same amount of time in my neighbor's garage. From what I could tell he simply flushed the oil/transmission fluid (along with any filters. gaskets) and made sure he siphoned the gas out of it to put fresh in. It was inspected before the car was sold to me.

I recieved my 96 SE September 2003 with 36k miles on it

So is 81,560 a lot of miles?

This car was driven lightly by me and the wife
heck it only saw the 143 mph top speed on three occasions

Updates to follow...
