kicked my car's ass...

this all happened before SZ, since then my insurance company has been throwing me through loops. Luckily the car has full coverage, but since it's looking like it will most likely be totaled, i'll still only get a couple grand, if that. the car WAS going to be repaired, but then they call today saying that the ordering of any parts is stopped until the insurance adjuster and appraising is done by the AAA agent, but going off the numbers they've told me, it's looking like it will be totaled. so i'm starting to look for new cars, trying to get some ideas, but that shall be another thread...

That's totalled? How much is a fender, windshield, mirror, and alignment?

on my way 2 sz my lil bro and i counted 15 deer on the road, and that was just on the way there, it was too dark on the way home to count and more corpses. i've been to wisconson and minnesota before and have never seen so much roadkill in my life :crazy:
 
Brings back bad memories of when I didn't hit the deer, but rather the deer hit me! Must have thought I wanted a piece of the p00n he was chasing because he charged the side of my car. :shrug: :help: :laugh: Luckily though he only clobbered my mirror.

Hopefully you get at least 3 grand.. or something.
 
At 17 I caught a deer out the corner of my eye at night. It was such perfect timing that I laid on the gas a tad and he hit the back corner. Got out and no damage. Must have had one heck of a headache the next day.

The other night on our way home from the casino, in the 35 mile drive we saw 27 deer. :shrug:

They won't even INSURE a car here against deer collisions. We count no LESS than 15 to 20 GROUPS of deer (at 5-15 a piece) in as little as a 15 mile stretch...

the 50 minute trip home would count more than three times that, especially in the late spring/summer.
 
wow the goverment needs to make some sort of deterent. it would probably save millions in insurance claims and save people as well. i was nervous driving through michigan at night on my way home from sz. (i kept my brights on the whole time though:laugh: )

you still count deer up here? i just TRY and dodge them. ive BEEN hit by 4 deer now. totaled 1 grand prix, hit 2 with the SVT before it the final accident, and 1 with my fiero (that did remarkable, no damage plastic ftw). i hate the suckers.

good luck with the car man, i know the pain of then hitting you (same side on 3 of my hits as you!)

Looks like less than 1000 damage to me. You could fix it functionally by getting new windshield, used mirror, used fender/door (see www.car-part.com). Use local salvage yards, distant ones won't generally ship a fender to you. Hope the glass did not hurt you, at least the airbags didn't pop! Usually the salvage value of the car is small (a few hundred comes out of your totalled settlement). How the salvage yards make money...

You aren't seeing the bigger picture. That damage would cost more than a thousand to fix if a shop were given the shot at fixing it. You can't think like we do when a window costs $20 from the junkyard. The insurance company judges parts by their value and cost brand new (I could be wrong, but they sure as hell don't plan on a $20 window in their assessment. More like, $2-300). So it adds up.

That's all. :) Not trying to get under anyone's skin.

I think it was Illinois that HAD the deterrents? There was one state I drove through that had sensors on the side of the road, with flashing lights if an animal/something interrupted the beam. I could have sworn it was Illinois. I was impressed, no other state I've been through had something like that.

The bad area up here is between Duluth and Two Harbors....ok the whole North Shore. :laugh: We saw about 20 deer on top of one of the tunnels chilling out. I think we had a rough estimate of around 50 deer in a 7 mile stretch. MNstuckinMI knows all about that wonderful road. :crazy: And the scary thing is, all the deer we see are the ones litterally on the side of the road or in the ditch. We have extreamly dense woods right after the ditches most of the time.
