head out to BFE, then turn left
With rising gas prices, I have recently been taking it easy on the peddle to see if I could improve the SVT's mpg. Under normal daily driving, I usually get 25-27 mpg to and from work and got 30.8 mpg on a pure highay trip once. I was shooting for 30 mpg to and from work with this last tank and came up slightly short getting 29.4 mpg. Time to make a few minor adjustments and see if I can get that true 30 mpg. Not bad considering Ford rated the car at 20 city/28 highway.

UIM/LIM Rebuild..

Sparkplugs/wires

Basic things like, keep tires inflated.

The title ment to say PLEASED with mpg. I was not complaining one bit with my post. I guess I am lucky in that my drive to and from work could not be more easy. It's a 20 mile drive one way and is all country back roads doing an average speed of probably 55 mph with very few stops. If my car got high teens on average, I would be getting rid of it.

yeah, this guy gets great mileage on his SVT, wish I could break 27 mpg :(

plus, I was reading some of the responses, things like UIM and LIM rebuild (aside from cleaning the EGR passages) really wont help gas mileage, contrary to popular belief a new air filter, or anything to improve breathing of the engine does not help your fuel economy, the tune on the computer only allows for a certain amount of fuel to enter the cylinders based upon a given amount of air (air fuel ratio), which means while a clean air filter is better for the motor and better for performance, its not going the change your fuel economy what so ever.

Could you back up that statement with something I can discern as facts?

An engine needs air to work properly. If it doesn't get enough air, it doesn't work as well. Dirty air filters don't let your engine "breathe" properly and your gas mileage suffers. Changing your air filter is an easy gas mileage enhancer.

The "given" amount of air you are referring to won't be obtained with a dirty filter....

Article By Peter Valdes-Dapena, CNNMoney.com staff writer

The guy writes about money articles for CNN. Do you honestly think he knows more about a car than Ray?
he got his info from consumer reports. not that i trust them with anything either.

From the article I read it really depends on the car. They said 95% of the cars out there have filters and airboxes that can outflow the engine so when the filter gets loaded up its still flowing more than enough for the engine. That shouldnt be an excuse to run your filter longer than the manual says but it gives people a cushion of when they get it swapped out.

That being said I just got back from my other office and on half a tank I hit 200 miles. Thats plenty good for me.

There is NO way that anyone is going to tell me that UIM/LIM rebuilds/cleanups and the like have NO effect on mileage..

That's asinine.

even a dummy like me can figure out that if my car is giving me less performance because of, say a dirty filter, im going to still want the same performance which means my foot in the tank more...i guessing that would decrease mileage and increase gas consumption
