time for new pads, kvr, mintex or ...

Neither. Bendix Titanium. Those KVR's suck! Backing plate seperate's from the pad and do not work at all in the rain.

i heard of the bendix having the same problems... maybe i am wrong
 
I was very happy with EBC Greenstuff pads. I would also recommend Hawk HPS. If you really want the best pads look at Porterfield.
 
i tried to contact carbotech via e-mail and haven't heard back yet. that was 2 days ago???
 
just placed my order for a set of Carbotech 1521 compound pads and 2 liters of ATE Superblue fluid. can't wait.
 
EBC's are junk, and that's from my own experience, not bias.

There's a reason why I sell Bendix Titanium - they work!

On my 1st SVT I had the brakes replaced under warranty after the rotors developed stress cracks. ~15k Miles. The replacement Ford pads were not the same compound that came on the SVT as new. (At least it did not feel the same) Replaced with EBC Greenstuff up front and the brakes worked much better. However this time I cracked the rotors in less than 3K miles.http://www.4113pittsburg.com/Garage/2000SVTContour/02290011.jpg I AutoX'ed the car monthly and it was driven hard on the street. I would not road race on the greenstuff. I do not think they could handle sustained hard breaking. Normal street driving, no problem. Definately better than stock pads. I currently have a set on my 95 Volvo 850 Turbo and they work fine.

I have heard that their Red Stuff pads did not hold up to track days. A friend in a 93 RX-7 went through a set in one track day at Hallet. He switched back to Hawks.

My only expiernce with Carbotech is in a Subara STI. I compete with it Locally, in Divisionals and Nationals for SOLO II. We had to change pads at the Walnut Ridge National Tour this year and we switched to Hawks HP+. I could not tell the diffence in breaking between the two pads. The biggest difference was that the Hawks cost less.

I have also run several sets of Hawks on my 2nd gen RX-7. Both HPS and HP+.

However the absolute best pads were the set of Porterfield R4's on my 88 944 Turbo. I had Hawk HPS for street driving and the R4's for Track days. The difference between the pads was amazing. The R4's had no fade, excellent pedal feel and superb clamping force. They also cost twice as much as the Hawks. They were even acceptable cold. But they sqealed really bad until they were up to temp.

BTW. You cannot go wrong with ATE Super Blue. Excellent Street brake fluid that is very suitable for sustained track use.
 
I've had the pleasure of using four brands of brakes on my old Mystique, and now SVT.

OEM were okay, did the job. Nothing special, just what you'd expect from OEM.
I tried the cheap 'n' cheerful BAT brake kit one time, which at the time was a decent value for money. They went in easy and did the job about the same as OEM but at a much lower cost.
KVR carbon ... had these new on my SVT. They squealed A LOT! They worked sufficiently when they were warmed up, but even on a damp day they'd go spongey after a short while until they were warmed up. Had to keep warming them on highway trips in wet weather or lose braking for about a second. They turned my rims gold in two days from dust build up. The rotors would become covered in rust over night with even the slightest dampness in the air. I refitted them many times to try and remove the squeal, even took it into my dealership once to try them too. Never stopped squealing.
Stazi brake kit .... the best bang for buck. You won't get better for less, I believe. Great pads, very grippy, and rotors last a long time. Never had so much as a peep out of these.
