codes 0300 and 0306!

bad wires = arcing?

bad wires = arcing?

If the wires are bad, will they always arc when looked at in the dark? I did check this one night, but I didn't see any evidence of arcing. What do you think?

I gapped the new plugs about 2 minutes before I put them in. OK, maybe I will try the new wires first. That kinda fits, as the car idles OK, but misfires under load. What the heck do I do about the $100 magnecors not working? Bastids!

sounds a lot like my old misfire problem, wierd thing for my problem was that I had all new ignition parts, new coil pack, wires and plugs. But I still got misfires. I even took it to a shop to figure it out, they tested everything and it all came out to be within spec. I realised my car hadnt had any misfire problems till my old coil pack gave out and I replaced it with another one. So I went and got a used Accell Coil. Problem eliminated.

Even though your coil pack could be testing within spec, it still might be the problem. Just a heads up. Im not saying im right, but the possibility is still there.

I give up. I tried to grease the boots, no luck. To me, it seems the magnecors aren't "clicking" onto the top of the plugs once they are installed. Just a light tug, and the plug wires slide out of the plug well. I'm sending them back to magnecor tomorrow, but then I'll just have a set of POS wires that won't fix the problem. I haven't had my car in a week, and I'm out of $$ to fix it.

Well, I talked to a Steve at Magnecor. He was pretty cool about it, saying they will test my wires tosee what's up. If they check out ok, I'll go with Alias' suggestion and look at a new coil. Thanks to all the folks who gave some input. Just another reason I love this site so much.

That's kinda what I was thinking the other day. But I'm getting no fuel codes, It's got a brand new filter, and never exhibited any bogging or other symptoms of bad fuel pump. I was thinking injector. I'll have to see what happens when I get the new wires from Magnecor. Great point though. I will keep it in mind. Thanks for the input.

When i tried to drive it a little bit, I got a P0174 i think, but that was from a vac leak. I haven't gotten that code again since I replaced the PCV to Evap emissions hose. Mine had brushed the EGR tube and melted a hole in it. That's when all the misfire codes started. I really think it may be a coil issue, but I'm still waiting on hte wires to come back. Is there a way to test injectors w/o taking the UIM off? I have heard about listening for a click, but that won't tell me if it's clogged.

Joy. Got my wires back from Magnecor. All felt secure when I re-installed them, felt a "click" on each one. Labeled the new wires so I would be sure of no errors on the coil. Cleaned out the inside of the coil w/ Q-tips. Started it, went for a short drive.......Nooooooooo!!!!!!!. CEL....codes 0306, and 0174....bank 2 lean. Would the 0174 be caused by a misfire in cyl. #6? I'm gonna go have a beer, and remeasure the coil. Opinions? New coil, even though autozone said it was OK? I think I'm gonna try a new coil tomorrow, maybe I can use the Force and convinvce them to take it back if the new coil desn't help.

I remember reading sometime ago that it is possible to test it with a 9 Volt battery to see if it works. It should click with power to it. You do need to remove it from the manifold.

In addition, someone mentioned that they had an issue and then when they removed the UIM and "played" with it (with a test pen), the injector "clicked" and everything worked again.

Your injector could be broken or dirty. One way to clean it is to use an ultrasonic cleaner. You may have to use your school labs ultrasonic cleaner. Make nice with the lab attendant (or they probably won't appreciate you messing out their "bath"-container with gas fumes :D ) .

Edit. Fuel Injector & Harness Tester Actron CP7819 on ebay or get from Autozone or Advance. About $50.

Ha, ha, ha. Not laughing @ you, but I teach in an inner city school in Pittsburgh. We run out of paper by March, and our schools "ultrasonic cleaner" is when the custodians listen to rap when they sweep the floors. But I appreciate the suggestion, anyway.

Hey! It might work. Put it in a bucket of water next to the speakers. Don't knock it 'til you try it.
