My leather seats suck up front, but nice in the back

I didn't know how to title this thread, but basically i'm writing to sasy that my two front seats feel hard and uncomfortable as opposed to the back seats.

I know the back seats are barely used if ever and retain their shape without cracks and always get a good buff and shine. My front seats on the other hand are already molded or bent and have cracks in them. I've buffed and polished and tried a lot of chemicals up front but nothing, meh my back seats though as are as soft and untouched as the day the car rolled off the lot. LOL what a contrast, anyone else have this problem? Btw, I can never ever get comfortable in my mystique vs. lets say the VUe or the MDX or even a civic where the seating feels good and grips you a whole lot better. I'm 6'2 and I find it very hard to adjust the front seats....

well there's two rants in one now eh? Uh, anyone else have similar thoughts?

Have you tried Lexol cleaner and then several applications of treatment? Softened my seats right up and got the color to match the rear seats! I find they are comfortable enough, although I never ride longer that 40 minutes...

Probably just need some new seats. I'm short and barely weigh 140lbs so they don't get much abuse.. the longest trip I've done was 3 hours and nothing bothered me at all

Complaining about being tall and not being comfy... I am 5'0''.. The contour is one of the only cars that i can actually see out of.... Thats with the seat all the way up and far forward... so i can push the clutch to the floor.... But back on subject... When i first got my CSVT i used a shop leather cleaner they buy it in bulk... its pink.. i will have to ask about it tomorrow... cleaned everything up nice..

bwahahah i hear ya there!!!
i am just shy of 5'0
my knees are at the dash unless i have heels on! all the guys tell me i am the only one they know that someone can ride behind in the CSVT. glad to see there is finally another one of us. unfortunately mine is about to get retired though

Man, this is one subject I'm going to touch on in my 03 Spec V vs 98 SVT review I'm going to post when I start driving the SVT again (been driving the Sentra everyday since I bought it).

The SVT's seats are SOOO comfy compared to my Sentra. Sentra's seats feel like they don't have any cushion after sitting in the SVT... Plus, with the same settings on the seat (front all the way up, rear all the way down, with a pretty hefty recline for a long legged 6'3"er) of each car, I sit WAY higher in the SVT. Feels like I'm in a chair, where as the Sentra it feels like I'm laying down.

More to come on that at a later date :ponder:

If I have a sore back/shoulders when I begin driving my SVT, I feel better after the drive. Every single person whom rides in it immediately comments on how comfortable the seats are -- even in the back.

Lexol, I've read a review on this stuff I might just pick some up (assuming I go to a Horse store) :D

i, too, have a '98 mystique ls with grey leather.

my issue is the "tilt" of the steering wheel. even at full tilt (as in tilt of wheel, not full speed!), the steering wheel rim is still too verticle for my taste. over time i have grown more accustomed to it.....and the way too short turn signal arm!

as to the front seat leather- mine looks great. i do treat the seats with lexol about twice a year. seems to keep them soft and supple. also may help that the car only has 34k total miles on it! a garage queen!

ya actually I find the same thing with the steering wheel, lol I hate being tall (taller than some) My leg always ends up hitting the wheel on a turn at FULL tilt even. I hate that, The turn arms I think LOOK sporty, but really in effect should be longer, but meh, I'm not going to groan about it now, everytime someone else drives it, it's IMPOSSIBLE to adjust the seat to feel comfortable again, but that's probably the same with any car.

at leas tyou can tilt the wheel, both of my families 95s the wheels do not tilt ... I actually like having my knees on the steering column, you can hold on better to take turns faster ...

I'm six feet tall or so and around 210lbs with a slightly long torso, and am very comfortable in both my Contours.

The cloth seats in my 95LX aren't high enough to support my shoulders properly, but I can adjust everything else perfectly with the electric seat controls. The steering wheel doesn't tilt, but I'm able to comfortably adapt to that.

The ride experience in the SVT is amazing at night when the midnight blue interior all but disappears. The effect with my oled head unit and glowing svt guages is really cool in the darkness. All that's illuninated is the road and all the information I need/want available to me.

If only the dash wasn't warped, the cup holders didn't suck and the center console didn't squeek, it would be perfect. :p I should be able to fix 2/3 at least...

Very good How-To, i'll do it with the mystique and post my "version" of it after I ask the original poster if I can use some of his information in my how-to for our cars.
Leather seats are leather seats, I don't think it's necessary to rewrite his how-to. I would be interested to see before-and-after pics of yours though. Someone else on here posted his tan leather seats before and after. They didn't look too bad to begin with but in comparison they were absolutely filthy!

Just a little advice, it is a good idea to take out the rear seats in our cars when cleaning them. It only takes 5 minutes, and it is much easier to clean them on a bench in the garage or on your kitchen table! ;) I just take out my rear seats everytime I clean them to get the cracks clean too! Just an opinion...

The rear seat pops up and out, you just need to apply some upward pressure on it. Then you need to tuck the seat belts through the holes in the lower seat. You will need a set of TORX screws to remove the back of the rear seats... only 4 screws per backrest. Just pop your trunk and pull the thing to allow your seats to fold down, then you will see the Torx screws. Unscrew them, and the back of the rear seats come right out. Only takes a minute, but trying to feed the seatbelt buckles back through the tight spot in the lower portion of the seat can be a little pain. It is really easy though.

If this post doesn't make sense then blame it on alcohol! ;)
