Are These Good Tires?

I spent about an hour at Tirerack.com, and have narrowed it down to:

BF Goodrich G-Force Sport
Bridgestone Potenza RE750
Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval
General Exclaim UHP

They will go on my daily driver 1998 CSVT. Snow is not too much of an issue here in lower Virginia, but rain is. I am looking for good handling, good treadwear, and don't care about noise or ride comfort.

Anyone have any thoughts for or against? Are any of these a definate "yes" or definate "no"?

Thanks for the help.

I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE750 on my car currently, lasted about 3 years with summer only driving ... decent tire but I think there are some better ones out there but imho not a bad choice

they have the goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3 on sale there also which i heard are very good in the rain. and the re050's on closeout both for basically the same price as the g-force sports and both very good options. not to mention the sports have impressed everyone that puts them on there car!!

I have the Goodyear F-1's that Luke from Tire-Rack had posted here a while back. They're great tires, haven't had any "issues" with them, rain or shine. A Zetec won't come close to breaking them loose anyway... But... if I were to do it again, I think I'd go with the General Exclaim UHP's. They're rated very highly on the Tire-Rack site, inexpensive (in 215/45 X 17), and.... they're about 4lbs LIGHTER than most of the other tires in that category. That much weight at that distance from the axle has a significant effect on acceleration, mileage, and suspension response (un-sprung weight). I'm seriously considering ditching the Goodyears in favor of them.

I run the bf goodrich on my svt now and they run great so far. They handle the rain just fine and I can even make it in the Michigan snow. They grip very well with my car when I launch. I would definitely recommend them.

I would say out of those either the Wideovals or Potenzas...but you can get better potenzas that kick but in the rain like the RE050A`s which are superb very good tires.

I hear good things about the cheapo Kumho AST's Thats what Im gonna get next, at 90 bux make that 74 oops a tire just saving up now. almost anything will be better than these weak contisport's.

Contis didn't have good reviews at TireRack either, so I ruled them out right away.

I was wondering why they didn't recommend any Goodyears at all. My experience with Goodyears is that they either perform REALLY well but don't last long, or, they last forever but don't handle worth a darn. Maybe they are still that way.

Sounds like there have been a lot of positive experiences with all 4 of them. I'm going to check into the RE050A.

Thanx, everyone.

Have you looked into the Falken Azenis RT-615 tires? Those are the only tires I'll run, at least until another street tire is available that handles better. They're cheap too!

I'm running Hankook K106's and I'm happy with them. They aren't that great in the snow, but like you said you only have to deal with rain. Wet and dry conditions I've been very pleased with them.

Look at the Potenza G009 (in honor of Goonz). I just put them on my Focus. Awesome directional tire for the price. Won't hesitate to buy them for the SVT.

we are using those on out cars but they are not a all out summer performance tire ... I have been pleased with mine but I wouldn't use them for summer only performance driving ...
