I'm looking to get my shift knob engraved but am not very artistic. I was thinking of incorporating the SVT logo in there somewhere. Does anybody have any ideas as to what might look sharp?

Unfortunately, in the state where I live, one of the requirements is that the knob show the shift pattern (believe if or not, I have failed inspection over that and known somebody who got ticketed for same). Therefore that will have to be incorporated.

I don't have any rewards (except maybe a photo with your work) but I know people here are very creative so any ideas or suggestions would be better than anything I could come-up with myself.

Why do you have to incorporate the shift pattern? Just keep the old one layin around for when you go to have it inspected. Then just switch them for the inspection and switch it back after. It will take all of 2 seconds to switch it.

As for an idea for the top... I would just put the SVT letters on the top and keep it basic.

You could have the shift pattern engraved on the side or front or something so that it doesn't get in the way of whatever you want for the main design.

i was going to machine a svt logo into a shift knob but never did. I will see if I can dig up the picture. It was basically a SVT logo in the center of a shift patter.

Shoot Elky and PM and ask him if he has a picture of his. He has a custom machined knob with just the SVT on the top. Light as hell too.

hahaha
light as hell!!!
hahahahah
if you consider a 13oz shift knob light!
i will try to get pics up soon.
it is a completely custom stainless steel knob with the SVT logo and my build number machined in it.

I still remember when you posted about it the first time, you said you found it on the side of the road and i think people believed you too

Need some info, my son has a 2000 SVT Contour, he got a new shifter knob for Christmas. The one currently on is a chrome one. Looking at the replacement it looks to me it should only screw on and off and the reverse lockoout release has no bearing on the shift knob replacement. The one currently on is on so tight that I am not sure that just unscrewing it is the answer to remove it. Is the shift knob just screwed down on the shifter itself with no locking nut?

correct, the knob twists off counter clockwise.
the chrome one that is on there now might just be on very tight or who ever installed it might have used threadlocker.

just grab and twist!

Thanks! It must be on there extremely tight! I was afraid of breaking the pin!

Thanks for all of the great ideas! This is the pattern I finally had laser etched on a pearl spun aluminum knob (which retains the reverse lockout recess):

I love the knob.  If the SVT lettering looked more authentic, I would buy that for sure.

The S shouldn't be touching the V on the logo.

Hi getsum111,

Not at all. I paid about $20 with shipping for the laser etching. The guy who did it has a lot of experience etching shift knobs. In some of his more interesting work I have seen, he etched numbers, such as build numbers, and messages on the sides of the knobs. Since it is laser etching, I have also seen some intricate graphics done. The price, I believe, is the same regardless of the amount of detail. If you want, I'd be happy to pass along his name and email.
