Another one bites the dust...

Im def considering going to check out what Baker Hughes is all about at the end of january unless something comes up with wisconsin

Proof that MI job market sucks more d than Steeda's ma. This sucks. Hell maybe I'll go.

If it matters, I did have a job here...

But the future of MI and Detroit did play a role in my decision. I can see myself coming back in a couple years if things turn around.

agh michigan sux! and i think i chained myself to my new location here by accepting the job i took! DAMNIT this blows!
(Best of luck barge!!)

I have a job here....infact a lot of people have jobs here. HOWEVER...no longer is Detroit a city where you can graduate high school and go get a great paying job on an assembly line somewhere. Unfortunatly, the Big 3 created the middle income, un-educated family (atleast in Mi) Now, all those people are retiring/lay-off and are being followed by thier educated kids.

My dad is a perfect example...once he got out of the Navy, he started his own company with only a few random semesters of college. That was the way to do it back then. Now here is the (myself included)younger generation (say currently 18-28's) with the means to a higher education....pushing out the un-educated (mostly meaning HS degrees).

From when I got layed off from Ford...I found a new job within two weeks. I know that some people take longer, but I guess I was lucky because I was still considered entry level with <1 year out of college. Go to any moster.com site and there are countless jobs out there....you just need an education.

...and don't start on the whole " I can't afford college thing." I went to school in the poorest county in Michigan; where I saw countless kids come from nothing to graduate with 4 year degrees. There are way to many programs out there to play the $$ card as an excuse.

I'm sorry if this offends some people, I can appreciate a lot of different situations out there...

There are jobs in Mi. You just have to find them, and prove that your better than the next guy (its just to bad now thats there a lot of 'next guys')

Oh sure... just call me uneducated :p

The MI industry weakness is making people hold on tight to their pocket books. Unfortunately that also means the best people will probably be going elsewhere.

It also varies drastically depending on what industry you're in.

Well...you do have people like me who need to pull 40hrs a week cuz I have this thing called a mortgage and a car payment...going to school is a bonus if you are young but I have never needed the degree until recently. I am no longer an "entry level" tech/engineer. I can't work as an engineer here at Ford without the degree and the market is flooded with newbie engineers and that is killing it. If I do not make it through this next round of cuts at Ford I too will be leaving Michigan and heading south most likely. I would rather go to Cali but cost of living is too much.

I'm at 40 hrs + and work already wants me to start my Masters this upcoming fall. UofM Dearborn is where its at for professional meets school. I just almost take offense to people *****ing about how bad everything is.

... having a job is no longer a handout.

If I stay at Ford I am looking into UofM Dearborn....as I already work down here.....working in Dearborn and driving home to go directly to school and hour after I got home and staying at school all night just burned me out so I had to stop...maybe taking classes here directly after work would work out easier.

I dont think anyone took pics at the bar, we got some in my basement tho.... Ill upload em' and Rara took some too
