Hi,
I have a 2000 ford contour svt and the engine just went... so I went out and purchased a 2004 ford tarus engine with 65,000 km on it.
I am not a machanic to do the change in engine. I have not been able to find a good machanic to do the job or the machanics I have looked into are wanting to charge me over $2000. So I am wondering if anyone can give me a hand in helping me with the easiest way possible in performing this change step by step and with the help in what parts I would need to purchase. Any help would be a great!

Thanks

Where are you located (Canada?) Why buy a motor without looking into install costs before hand?

Just paying someone to swap a stock motor will cost you $1,000 so unless you plan on doing it all yourself you won't be able to pay someone to install a 3L for too much under $2k. The 3L will not drop right in. You need to pick a engine type you want to go with (Ported 3L, Full 3L, or Hybrid). Then read up on what needs to be done to achieve that build type. A Full 3L will need a tune more so than the other two build types ($500+) but it would be easier for a non-mechanic to build. You also need to look at the condition of the clutch, flywheel, mounts, sensors, accessories, etc. because you'll want to fix them at that point. You'll want to look into a torsen ($600+) also because it's much easier to swap in while the motor is out. Headers ($250+) should be done as well but aren't necessary.

Thanks for the advise...
I would like to go with a full 3L, even if I have to do a tune on it. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what parts I need to change and purchase to make this engine that I purchased (2004 3.0L traus ) fit in my 2000 contour

You need to start reading through all the Full 3L threads in this forumn and get a handle on what needs to be purchased and done. No one's gonna spoon feed you when all the information is at your finger tips here.

This webisie has literally saved me $$$ of dollars in repair costs due to all the How-to's and photo's and useful tips. Dig in. With all the people that have done this before and documented their success and failures on here, you'll find it much easier to go forward on your project.

BTW I have a port-matched 3L swap. Its the easiest (IMO)...tho if I had to do it again I'd do a Full 3L with ST220 intake and SVT cams.

Try newcougar.org. In the 3L section, there's a pretty good write-up attempt at installing a 3L engine. Try there. Unfortunately, this isn't sumthn you can walk someone through. You have to have some sorta know-how to accomplish this. Or serious studying up... You can start by searching "swap" in the 3L forum here. Lotta threads will pop up.
