AC compressor not turning

i just got done swapping a motor in my managers 98 mystique 2.0 .AC compressor is not turning. the connector on the compressor is plugged in, and the compressor dont turn with AC on. i was recharging the AC when i looked down and saw that it wasnt turning.

is the compressor shot?

Welcome.

If the R134a is too low or too high, the compressor will not come on. In addition, the clutch gap could also be an issue. I would not condemn the compressor until these things are checked out first.

Try putting a jumper wire in the low pressure switch by the accumulator. If the system is low, jumping the switch will turn on the compressor aiding you in adding the 134-A.
Jump the harness connector, not the switch, that is screwed into the accumulator by the battery.

If jumping the low pressure switch doesn't work, then try the high pressure, then check for voltage at the compressor clutch, and check resistance to ground at the clutch. If the clutch is getting voltage and has a good ground, but not engaging, it is most likely something related to the clutch. Also, make sure the thing is just not low on refrigerant.
