Im going to go with some kind of plastic... What a jackass driver, he stalled it once.

Cool idea... But think about that, you would have to take the rims off every time you wash the car to clean them because of the massive amount of brake dust that would build up back there. Plus it looks like brake cooling would suck ass.

really thick polycarbonate [lexan]

the only problem I see with that is the heat let off by the calipers is going to "frost" over the plastic over time.

Really really really freakin' cool for a show car. Not so practical for a daily driver. You would also have to be VERY careful when tightening your lug nuts. Thick polycarbonate or not, it will crack and spider with the right kind of high pressure.

On the up side, it gives you the cool "hubless" look without all the engineering nightmares associated with a true hubless wheel. I really do like it. It's just something best suited to a show car or weekend beauty queen.
