Did my ‘95 SE throw a rod?

I just pulled my ‘95 SE MTX out of a three year hibernation and got it back on the road. It was running great for a couple of weeks (except for no AC and no speedometer).

On Saturday, everything was fine. It was a hot day (mid 80s) and I was 45 minutes into a one hour trip when I started to hear a ticking/rattling sound which started to get louder. My car didn’t overheat, though the needle had gradually creeped up to the “M” in “N O R M A L.”

Eventually my car stalled and could not be started. There was no explosion or loud banging sound, the oil level and coolant look perfect, and there’s no outward sign that anything’s amiss (no oil on the ground, no metal in the oil, and nothing poking through the engine block). It sure sounds like a rod, though.

I can’t figure out how to post it, but here’s a 28 second clip of the sound…

cant hear your video. do you know if your water pump is original or if its aftermarket with the metal impeller? the issue with the stock pump is that the plastic impeller becomes brittle with age and shatters at higher rpms. it could be a possibility and something to look into. that could also be why your temp gauge was slightly elevated, and probably why you didnt see anything leaking. you may have caught it really early.
