just about to seal my headlights back up, i have a tube of regular Clear Silicone sealant and im just wondering if that will be ok, Bob R told me to use RTV Gasket Sealing silicone, but the guy at car quest said the clear silicone would be better.

so someone thats baked the headlights apart tell me what you have used and if the clear silicone will be ok. thanks

I have posted this before but here is a hint....go to a dealership and get OEM sealing product.

A little searching and going to one of the numerous websites where people retrofit their headlights will yield all the info you need. You'd be surprised the info you would find .

I have been spending hours researching different retrofit methods for when I do my Valeo retrofit. No one is handing me a how-to for it b/c frankly not many people know how.

Take some time and educate yourself. Using the wrong materials and or products will only cause you future headaches.

If you know what you're doing, then why don't you write the how-to?

Many many people have used the RTV high-temp silicone and have had no problems with it. This is what I used and would not hesitate to use again.

Finally! someone has done some leg work other than myself, now you know what it feels like to seek out the information and then have CEG demand you tell them what it is!.

FYI team, you can get nearly the same stuff as the dealership sealant from any autoparts store, and its a ****load cheaper too. This cant be the only thing you use tho. In the winter the sealant will get hard, and develop some leaks (just the design of our housing, it doesnt hold itself together with pressure). PM me and ill let you know what I use on top of all that :)

And no, silicon is not the way to go. It works but it is very difficult to make sure you dont have a pinhole leak somewhere
