If I swap a PCM with the same PCM code, do the keys need to be reprogrammed?

I've never done this before. I would assume the keys would need to be reprogrammed regardless but maybe someone has experience with this and I'll get lucky. TIA.

Yes, they would need to be reprogrammed. Unless you have the old keys you could pull the chips out of the old ones. Don't forget you will want the ignition halo, ignition cylinder, door cylinders, and trunk cylinder if you are using new keys.

actually you don't need the PATS antenna or halo the is at the ignition.

Since a 99 has PATS internal to the PCM the keys will need to be programmed.

If you have the keys for the replacement PCM either swap the chips in the keys, or use the keys to program your stock keys.

There is no need to change out the lock cylinders unless you want to use the keys that come with the replacement PCM.

IIRC, If you have a SCT or Diablosport tuner, you can turn off/by pass PATS. Not saying you have one, but it is an option also...

Its honestly a bad idea to disbale the PATS system. There has been more then one story where just the blinking light or the system itself has stopped many a contour from being broken into or stolen.

Ok so sorry to bother you with such an old thread, but i need my car. i replaced my PCM with the exact same one i had before because lead wire to TPS touched the positive battery and killed my car. the anti theft light used to blink a few times, pause and then continue blinking. now its just steady. turning the key does nothing except turn on lights and interior stuff. i can make the engine crank over by jumping the battery, but all it does is crank. am i to understand i need to have my keys reprogrammed?
