Keyless entry while engine running ?

The car has there little buttons on the drivers and passanger doors to unlock and relock the doors while the car is running. I'd suggest you try those.

I guess I wasn't clear enough. All I want to do is lock the car while its running and carry the fob to lock/unlock when i come back instead of carrying an extra key. As you all know currently the fob won't work if the car is running.
Can wires be jumped to achieve this with the FACTORY key fob.

Maybe it's relayed like the fog light fix i don't know.

What you want to do is commonly achielved with a remote start system. There is no point in trying to wire it the way you want, just make it eaier and get a remote start system. You can get the installed at Ultimate Electronics for under $300..

yeap, unless you break the tip of the key off in the ignition. I had that happen on my old corolla. I could start the car, than take the key out. Worked fine until the keys fell out of my pocket without me realizing and I locked my keys in the car with it running.

Though go the starter route. You can get some decent ones for less than 300 though. You will have to find that that works with a factory alarm system though, but thats easy. Id also suggest putting the fob on a key ring that you can easily detach, cause from what you want to do it seems that you will be ALREADY be in the car(?) when you want to do this? You could leave the keys in the ignition and just take the fob with you.

Which is what he is trying to do. I've also wondered about this. As I could do this with my 94 SHO, but apparently the Contour's are not cool enough to do this.

For instance say you just want to run into the gas station to pull out some money out of the ATM and want to leave your car running because it's butt ass cold outside. However you still want to lock your car. With my SHO I could just grab the key FOB and use that to lock and then unlock the car while it was running. The contour can't do that as it sits, and it seems stupid to pay $300 for a remote starter when all I want to do is leave the car running and locked while I go in somewhere quick.

This is exactly what I want to do.

There must be something in the ignition telling the remote not to work when the car is running.

With how it is from ford factory, it seems unless you know someone with a ford PATS programmer could mess with the PATS system somehow, Im sure its possible this way. Some locksmiths have em... Or, I guess to solve fords headache, you could buy a cheap ass keyless entry system, to engage the locks in that way. but then youd have to carry around a seperate bulldogg fob or somethin like that lol. Or, maybe you could tap into the trunk release lead, and wire that into the driver door lock lead?? Oh noes then the trunk would pop lol. JUST GO CUT A KEY YOU LAZY PERSON YOU!!!

Anyone figure out how to have the key fob lock/unlock the car while it is running?
That sounds like an opportunity...... I don't have the remote entry on my car or I would take on this challenge. Check out the wiring on the ford cd and see what you can figure out. Then post it here. It seems reasonable that it is a simple matter that causes it not to work.....

my 2 cents

If any one has the cd and wants to look into this and/or post results of mod or wants to PM with directions I will give it a try.

I've been wanting this too, had to get a key cut instead but hoping there is an easy way for PATS not to kill the fob signal....

I don't think that PATS has anythign to do with not letting the keyless entry work when the ignition is on ... this is how my 95 works and of course it doesn't have PATS ... also PATS only work when teh car is started ... once it is running you could take the key out of the ignition and the car would still run ....

that reminds me of what a friend of my fathers did in a 69 cougar that he has ... he wired a switch in to by pass the ignition switch I believe, so you start the car and flip the switch and you can take you key out of the ignition and the car would stay running ...

It might be just me, and I know i've tried this (probably only good for keeping A/C or heat on) but isn't this a safety issue like lets say that it's assumed that the driver is already in the car?

i have 2 sets of keys..... my second key fob opens the car when it's running and locked.....found this out when i accidentally locked the keys in while warming up in the driveway..... i couldnt tell you how/why though.

Just carry a key around. Cause what would u do if you ran into the store and your FOB batter went dead? Your key will never die. Or the key will never break if you drop it. I carry a key. Would hate to run to a atm and drop my FOB then kick it at the same time. Watch that thing break as i sit my but out side in the cold. Yesshh that would suck. Just take a few seconds and use a key. Stop being sooo lazy!!!!

I do this everytime i run into a convenient store. i leave the key in the ignition (running) hit the get out and hit the LOCK button on the door. as i take the keyless entry/alarm i have installed with me. then when i come out i hit the unlock/unarm button and bam my doors unlock! I guess the previouse owner had it set up this way if you guys' arn't able to do so as well.
