I've been working with Massive Speed System for a few weeks now on developing a good set of adjustable, tubular rear control arms for the Cougar/Mystique/Contour. In the past, the Bradness/Redcoat Racing arms were the only alternative, and they haven't been produced for a number of years. Used sets still sell for $200 and up in the Classifieds section - on the rare occasions anyone actually parts with them.

I am testing a set of prototype control arms from Massive right now. They are hefty powdercoated aluminum tubular arms, with double heim joints and anodized aluminum bushings. They are built to the same quality specifications as Massive's popular Focus and Mustang lower control arms shown on their website. I installed them this past weekend, and had the car aligned today. As soon as it stops raining in central Ohio, I'll finally be able to push them a little to get some real driving impressions. So far, the daily driving aspect is hardly changed; there is no perceptible added harshness or noise.

Here are a few photos:

The Massive arm next to a stock control arm. Both of my OEM arms were deformed simply from spirited driving.

These will have a list price of $199 per pair from Massive. They are in the process of trying to source all-new mounting hardware to include with each order as well. In addition to the added strength, these parts allow for extra rear toe adjustability.

I'll update further as I receive more information from Massive. Keep an eye on their website as well for emerging details and sales.

Just heard back from Massive today. The parts should be ready for distribution in approx. 5-10 business days, and they are going to go ahead and get them on the website catalog later on today so you can order them with the 11% discount (use discount code "IRSWON" when checking out) through April 18th. That brings the price down to $177 through the 18th.

Also, I wanted to add that the swage tube is actually .220" wall aluminum ( I originally said it was steel), offering excellent strength and keeping total weight of the fully assembled arm nearly a full pound less than the stocker.

I love that color, damn!

I have always heard noise from these types of setups, so you are saying I won't hear these clunking around, right? Warranty?

I've been driving on them for 2 days now, and there is no "clunking around". The aluminum bushings are the same diameter as the stock ones, so they fit the bolts the same way. I'm on a Koni/Roush suspension, which is already rather harsh, so I can't say how it compares to a stock, or generally softer setup. But there is no perceptible added harshness to the ride on my car.

Wow, those look amazing! I may have to make room in the budget for these while they are still discounted. Good work making this happen.

Any possibility of them working on the forward rear control arms?

Who knows. I'd call this a test, to see how the market looks for CDW-27 parts. Of course if they sell well, it would be silly NOT to make other parts.

Personally, I'm rallying for front A-arms and proper camber plates...

Stangkiller's tubular a-arms make a huge difference, so it would be cool if someone was actually producing something like that still.

Well I know they have a buyer in me for the toe arms. I'd love if they made tubular A-arms.

This.

I have a brand new set of the stangkiller a-arms sitting right next to me, I wonder if the local welder I met could produce a batch of them. I will try to look into it.

Hey Andy, can you let them know I will test a set of rear toe arms for the pre98 crowd ?
