So I just got hit with a pretty hefty ticket today on 89 comming down through NH, I was following another car and didn't think I was speeding...the officer flew up on my left and I pulled over to let him pass, he blew by and stopped the other car ahead of me and then jumped out of his drivers side door and stood in the middle of the road and had me pull over as well...

Couldn't tell if he wrote the other driver up as it was two women with handicapped plates and it appeared they got different paperwork but I got slapped with a ticket...the cost stinks at $350, says I was doing 88 in a 65 and checked the little radar box...but the real concern insurance points...

Just wondering if anyone in a similar situation just pays up or fights it? it is a cool two hour drive from my house to where I got the ticket.

Thanks

i dont believe out of state tickets go against your insurance, if you can cough up the $350 then thats up to you, but id probably take the day off of work to fight it...at the least they'd reduce it id assume like the do in MA...maybe others can back up or contest my facts :)

Hey thanks, everything I have read seems to indicate that if I get a ticket in NH it is just like getting it in MA and that it goes against my insurance.

it will go against your mass drivers points.
the system is a lot better now and they actually track that stuff.

if you can afford to take time off from work to fight it, i would.

I can take the time, that is no problem, but what I wonder is if since they checked radar, and since someone else was bagged with me, does that mean I stand a snowball's chance in...honestly I wasn't even trying to speed, just keeping up with that other car and assumed they were going legit as we were just comming out of a work zone...sucks

Dress well, be a gentleman, and see if you can get the judge to help you out. You might even offer to pay a fine in return for deferred imposition of sentence, wherein they keep the ticket off your record as long as you have no other infractions within the next six months. I'd deal as plainly as possible. When I lived in Montana, I took exactly this approach with good results.

Wow, sounds like the same cop that pulled me over. Sounds exactly like the same situation. I am fighting mine. I got $400 in tickets for a first time offender. My court date is Dec. 12th. I say fight it.

2000myst...

Is it just me or did you go MIA?

Naah man, I'm here, dinking around here and there. I don't get a lot of time off while I'm at school and its hard to find time to make the meets. The vermont one was a little far and Connecticut is a drive also b/c I gotta have someone pick me up at school, get my car, clean it, drive down, then back home, and then back to school, kind of a PITA. yah yah, excuses are like *******s, everyone has one and they all stink. :)

Basically I'm just waiting for my grand arrival, its gonna be pimp.
Don't worry I'll see you guys soon enough. I'll make time for the next meet.
AT least someone remembers who I am...:D

i can never tell if you are joking or not....
I'm totally joking! Who can forget the blue Mystique with gold accents, and of course Dan himself.
I gotta work on the sarcasm indicator.

I've heard that they've gotten better about reporting tickets from NH down to MA, but it hasn't happened to me yet. I got caught on I-89 by Aircraft a while back now. I fought the ticket, and think I almost won, but no dice.

The trooper stated that they do not share records with MA, and I haven't seen it appear on my record yet!

When fighting the ticket, come fully prepared. There is no court magistrate like in MA. You'll go right in front of the judge. They may try to negotiate a reduced ticket before seeing the judge.

Also, be sure to check out http://www.radardetector.net/viewforum.php?f=6&sid=03396b1d36d88c43ae88b7f6f2faedc6. Great reference and very helpful. Plan ahead and you may have a good shot at fighting the ticket!

yeah but how could he possibly win?? we're not talking a few over here! 88 in a 65?? I'd say there is no chance in hell of winning without a lawyer, and even thin it's iffy. Unless it's like jersey where if you plead not guilty they automatically drop the points and just make you pay the fine and then everyone kicks a goal and has a party...

i should have clarified a little more, i meant he should at lest contest the ticket and go before the magistrate/court to try and either get it tossed or at least reduced to a non moving violation, which will remove the points from the ticket.
