My parents lease a new Ford vehicle every year and this year Ford was giving good manager leases on the new Taurus. They ordered it a few months ago and took delivery yesterday. It does come with the new 3.5L duratec. :) I'll have to ask my dad how he thinks it drives, but he did send me some pics. This is what hes said about the car so far:

The Taurus is very nice. Back seat is huge. The truck is slightly smaller than the Grand Canyon. Very quiet. List was only 24890 but seems like a lot more car for that the price.

I like the dash layout and dark carpet. Electronic everything. All in all I am very impressed.

the new Taurus/Sable platform, is EXCELLENT. You get a lot of car for very little money. The other day I was hanging out with a friend, they pointed out the new taurus "Wow, what kind of car is that?" me:"A taurus" them: "Certainly looks nicer than a taurus."

That was a smart decision in Ford's marketing department, I thought they were going to eliminate the taurus entirely, im glad they changed their mind.

6 speed automatic, Duratec35, no more underpowered vulcan engine, sign me up. Good buy on your parents' part.

Yeah I'm really liking the new Taurus and I think the name will only enhance the sales, everyone knows what a taurus is, and most people consider them reliable at least, this is just worlds better from any earlier taurus and though it's not something I would buy (3 pedals please) I think the majority of American car buyers (Point A - Point B with creature comforts and good mileage/power) are looking for exactly what that is.

I'm trying to talk the GF into buying a slightly used Montego Premier. Nice options on the Premier include two tone perforated leather, HIDs and LED tail lights.

I think for the money this is a great car and the extra 40HP from the new 3.5L is a huge step in the right direction.

New 3-bar grill is interesting, not sure if I like it or not just yet.

Can't stand the grille but I loved the Five Hundred and new Taurus. So much car for the price, and they look fantastic too. It's making me almost retract my statement about never owning a Ford for a daily driver again.

Not sure I like the radio, it makes it look very obvious that your parents didn't opt for the navigation. That two-tone interior is perfect though, especially the dark carpet!

I have the same oval-shaped pass-through for the fold-down rear seats in my Maxima. There's got to be some engineering reason why they didn't increase the size of it, but personally it makes the thing almost useless for bulky items.

Im wondering if there is any plans for a SHO version. I know I saw a proto drawing of 2008 SHO on the sho site, but could have been just amatuer artist

There are others that are way ahead of you, they actually made a full website for the 08 SHO in hopes that ford will produce one.

I think it would be awesome, but they're a couple things that makes me not want the SHO back.
1)Automatic tranny
2)Power to weight ratio wont be good
3)it'll be just like the old SHO's. The engine is a tank, but the rest of the car is still a taurus.

But either way it would be sweet to have it back, i loved my dad's old SHO before he junked it.

if they brought the SHO back I would LOVE to see something paddle shifter on it. Would be bad ass if Ford were the first American manufactorer to do a F1 style Flappy Paddle gearbox with an automatic mode.

Like the Mercury Maurauder, Ford made the newer SHO's automatic only, because most family men wanted a performance sedan, so the wife would be happy with a car they could drive every day and not have to finage with a stick shift, and the husband was happy because he was still able to have something with a little grunt behind it.

My wife and I had a 2008 Taurus loaner for 2 days when we were getting some work done on the Hybrid. I drove that car and absolutely loved it. Plenty of gears and power compared to the Taurus of old. I am even thinking of buying one in the next year or 2 when my brother steals my CSVT. Wasn't too crazy about the color though, some kind of silverish baby blue metal flake.

looks awesome!

I do believe that they should dress up the engine bay to make it look nicer like on most other cars..

wow nice job FORD! looks awesome...only 3 things id change. First it needs dual exhuast...i like how at least they put some polised tips on the side instead of nothing but it needs some duals second. it needs a 5spd or spd manual for the enmthusaist and third bring back the SHO!!!!!!!!

uh i tohught the ponitac grand prix has that?

The new Taurus is just too freakin big. I can't imagine them making a SHO model out of the thing. I mean, there's only so much you can do with a vehicle with that much mass.

A hi-po Fusion model would be a better alternative. Lets see a fusion with the duratec 35 and 6-speed MTX. Drop it an inch and put some nice brakes on it and you would have yourself a modern day SHO (The Fusion is practically the same size as the original SHO).

Perhaps the Sable could get a higher output version to go with it's more "premier" image. Perhaps the Volvo/Yamaha 4.4L?
