I recently did some work at one of the local High Schools in my county and stumbled across this in the automotive wing. Brand new, 1997 V8 SHO 4.4L engine and front end. I only had a minute to talk to the teacher who owns it. He said he bought it from a company who did a mock-up test on some other components? Apparently the engine has never been fired. He said he would let it go for about $1500. Anyway, here are the pics. Its a big motor!

you know whats funny is brand new that motor sold for $15k!!

there is a guy on ebay who has a bunch of crate motors that he somehow picked up in a deal. he cant get rid of them for just a few grand

lol cause nobody wants them anymore. but for a while, with the cam sprockets failing and destroying the motor(s), there was a big demand for them. Now not so much.

Some old lady parks a white one by my store all day. I reckon she don't even know what it is. I always wanted to drive one, just to see what it's like though.

lol, my friend was telling me he saw a old lady driving a CTS-V.. I was like "she must have asked for the "Top Model" or something."

prolly the same case..

The evolution of the SHO went 3.0l V6 220 hp, 3.2L V6 225hp (automatic tranny), and finally 3.4L V8 with 234HP (I believe). If I had my way, I'd polish, port, tune, and install in a 6-speed Miata. It would fly.
It would fit, too. There are a few 5.0L Miatas out there tearing things up.

i thought is was a 3.8

that's a v6. Just add up the cc's of each cylinder of the duratec and add 2 more.

this is common knowledge.

lol i saw a woman, had to be in her 50's driving an 03 cobra when they first came out. another middle aged chick drives the new M5. White. Nice car! she drives really fast too!!

thats a cool sight to see!

i just hope it wasn't some high school class project that has been taken apart 1000 times and put together wrong...that would be a shame :(

it is...it's a duratec 2.5 with 2 extra cylinders. i'm 99.999% sure it's 3.4L

Duratec? I thought the 3.4 V8 was a Yamaha engine which is basically the same architecture as the 4.4 V8 in the Volvo XC90 and S80.

Nevermind researched it and it's based off the Duratec silly me for not looking into it before posting:troutslap:

Pardon my ignorance, but didnt yamaha team up with ford to make the SHO? I wonder about wikipedia sometimes?

The first gen SHO's with the 3.0 and 3.2 were Yamaha engine's...high revving DOHC V6's...sweet engines...PITA to do rebuild's though.

Oh man I'd love to build something like that. Except with a built 331 stroker and a Kenne Bell...mmmm....
