 '95 Contour 2.5 Duratec. 115k. Problems starting, keeping running. CEL on: codes 16 15 12 in that order. Manual I have isn't very helpful. If/when I can get it started can only keep it going with rpm > 2000, and then with sputtering. With timing light on sputtering seems to coincide with light not lighting up. Crank sensor? Wiring? Help?!?

From FAQ, 95 OBDI codes, EEC IV,
http://www.contour.org/FAQ/FAQ.php?s=probs&displayid=10

12 Idle Speed Control motor or Air Bypass not controlling idle properly (generally idle too low)
15 (O) No Keep Alive Memory power to PCM pin 1 or bad PCM (Memory Test Failure)
(M) KAM (pin 1) was interrupted (was battery disconnected ?)
16 1.9L & 2.5L - Throttle stop set too high
2.3L - RPM's too low
(O) Electronic ignition - IDM circuit fault

Check wiring/connector to IdleAirControl IAC valve (or Clean/Change it). This link has TBcleaning instructions too.

Check if Fuse 11 (3 AMP) is broken or missing from Power Distribution Box next to the battery.

Clean ThrottleBody TB and check connector wiring/connector to ThrottlePositionSensor TPS. Location here in Autozonelink.

Testing IAC

Testing IAC

I removed IAC, cleaned it, but I don't think it's working. Anyway to test? I ordered one, it will be in tom. (2/7). Cleaning throtle body now - Yikes what a mess it was. Thanks for the info

Fuse 11 OK

Fuse 11 OK

I checked fuse 11 and it is fine. Still getting same codes 16,15,12 ?!?!

Make sure key is out of ignition. Disconnect negative battery terminal cable for one or two minutes. Then reconnect.
