This is a Webasto unit that I pulled out of another Ford (sorry don't remember what, but it doesn't matter) and is "installed" in my 00 contour. I noticed while at the boneyard looking to see what other cars might use our motor, that many Fords had slightly different variations of the one in this photo, and that it looked like it would fit- which it does perfectly. There are a few other things that will have to be done, and I don't know if it will operate correctly yet, but anyone who would like to collaborate on this is invited to help. I have not yet researched the control electronics, AND the drive shaft will need to be modified, but it seems like a possible better solution than trying to fix the unit that came with the contour that has several obvious and ridiculous design flaws.DSCF0238d..jpg

This same motor and gear assembly was used in a lot of different ford/lincoln/merc vehicles..probably mazda's as well. The hard part is going to be cutting the drive gears and welding the new one back together. Before doing all of that, I need to count the number of turns the new donor makes and compare to the stock unit. I tend to think this may be a problem. I took the one in the picture back and exchanged it for one out of a 2001 mercury sable. The glass looks smaller, so I'm hoping the worst case is that this unit will not open my glass all the way. Figuring all of this out would be a hell of a lot easier if Webasto's website wasn't so locked down with access to all the good stuff only for 'dealers'. A good theory of operation and detailed wiring diagrams would be very helpful.
A side note: the local pick-n-pull is awesome. If you have one near you, they put all the other boneyards to shame and it's definitely worth your time to go there w/ your tool bag. Great prices, huge inventory that turns over constantly, online inventory list/ locator and price list- a real god send.

Wow! My 1995 Escort GT has never had an issue.

F-ing CD/W cars. I have to offer assistance to my 98.5 sunroof to close now. As I watch this old Netflix streaming Topgear stuff, I need a crafty non-PC comment to make...

The CD/W was a $6B steaming pile of ****. They can design planes for less!

I hope every loser that managed that program is now working on an assembly line at ACH...no pension! But, no. They are now working for tier 1 suppliers I am sure; as technical experts.
