2 tabs off my right tail lamp bulb socket broke and I need to replace it because it's not working anymore. I went to the local Ford dealer and the guy said had not this piece in stock and that he would'nt be able to order it. After this I went to Auto Value and Auto Parts Plus and they did not have it too. Does someone know where I could get this?

Junk yard is the best bet. I just went through this with my fog light socket. Scrap yard gave it to me free.

Look closely at your tail light socket and and the one you're considering purchasing. Ford evidently changed the design somewhere around '99 or so. My owners manual clearly states the tail light bulb is the conventional bayonette socket style 1157, but what I REALLY have is a wedge socket style bulb # 3157.

I have the 3157 style bulbs and sockets on my 99csvt. Is it possible to change my current sockets to 1157 sockets? The reason I ask is because I want to put in LED bulbs and I can only find them in 1157. Would I have to cut any cables or is there such thing as an 1157 replacement socket for 3157? Thanks.

just had a similar issue myself, the local ford dealer wanted $50. They sold the wiring harness and the socket and you couldnt just get the socket. The autozone by my house only had GM bulb sockets (go figure!!!). So I hit up the local junk yard and snatched up all the contour bulb sockets they had :)
paid $5 for each pair.......shoot me a pm if you cant find any around your area

The 98' E0 SVT I had also had the wedge style bulb.

I have the same issue as TGO. I decided to return the 1157 LED's I got and exchange them for the 3157 LED's. This is easer and quicker than having to run around junk yards. Nonetheless, it was retarded of Ford to randomly use different sockets.

Also, the guy at the dealership told me the 3157 style sockets are hardly used anymore.

yeah lol i had the same problem with the front turn signals as well...i tried the led's one time and couldn't even use them cause they wouldn't fit!

call me crazy though, but i think the difference is more than just the socket. i think there's an extra wire in there somewhere. it's been a long time since i thought abotu this though, and my memory isn't so clear.

There should be 4 pins on the 3157 lamp, with 2 ground contacts diagonally, and 2 seperate feeds on the other two pins (one for the brake/turn signal, and the other for the parking lamp).

Maybe they have 2 seperate ground wires ran? I don't see why these couldn't be tied together for the 1157 (bayonet base).

Check this out, just randomly searching for the base and found these "tower" LED lamps... look pretty cool!
