I was riding on december 26 while it was snowing a lot with big winds and damn a contour handles well. I drove many cars in my life(mom's mazda prot©g©, mom's toyota corolla, dad's BMW 323i, dad's ford f150, friend's toyota tercel, friend's suzuki swift, friend's honda crx,, friend's honda civic, friend's kia magentis, friend's kia rio... i must have forgotten some...) and I've never a car with such a good handling than my 'tour. wind, snow, rain... the handling always been awesome. and snow is fun with handbrake... until cops follow you in the back(a chance they did nothing).

anyway, Contour rules the road...and the parking lot.

I concur on everything, but snow. I dislike the vehicle in snow. Handling is great, but weight isn't there. I prefer heavier cars in the snow. However, it still beats my old RWD Ford Aerostar in the snow.

i agree with you about the snow, the 63/37 weight distribution causes great havoc with me in the snow , thats why i havent driven it in the winter in about 3 years

Having driven a Subaru Forester, my old PGT and my Contour in the snow, I liked the Forester for its AWD capability (I did fishtail once accelerating on a right turn but it corrected itself immediately - I was expecting FWD and it temporarily gave me RWD till it realized its mistake!), otherwise excellent handling in that car, but I like the Contour for its heaviness. I am still most comfortable with the Contour in the snow, probably because I know how to handle it.

The PGT ... well, let's just say after a few "occasions" I avoided snow like the plague in that one. Combine FWD with an extremely light, high-powered car, low profile tires (stock rims) and you've got a recipe for disaster. I've never skidded out of control in any other car except that one.

you really need to try snow tires, the contour acts like it is on dry summer road with the right snow tires

I find my car very balanced in the snow, pull the e-brake while going in a straight line and the rear end lifts a bit then heads to the right in a controlled and predicatble manor

I love the snow as you can slide around corners with the e-brake, I can easily and controllable put my car sideways or slide it around the corner with some power

but with that being said you can't drive like it is the summer, I would put my car up against just about anything in the snow and I bet I would do better

how about this, loading zone at school, so many people got stuck as the entrance was a short fairly steep little hill, I never one got stuck with snow tires

I definitely agree that it's all about the good snow tires. I was out once with my summer dunlops in about an inch of snow, and it felt like i was on ice. Having had Blizzaks since the car was new, I can honestly say that the contour is one of the better fwd cars that i've driven in the snow. Two years ago I got through an unplowed street with 10 inches of snow on it. My bumper was pushing a path through some of it, but the car was still going.

Granted, when it's really bad out, I just take the F350...

I hate my car in the snow. I just dont move at all in the snow. Next set of tires will be some really good snows.
