I would like to know that when I here the term gutting the cat what purpose does that serve by doing this? who would you go to to do this? What I am trying to do is I have already taken out my resonator and now I am looking to do some mods to the cat and take out the muffler and run straight pipe but what i am looking for is a nice rumble to the engine tone nothing overly loud or anoying. Any suggestions on how i could do because for this particular mod I am looking for the cheapest way possible.

I am thinking this:

high performance cat-straight pipe
no cat-high performance resonator-pipe
gutted cat???

If youre going to plan on running straight pipe youre going to need to get used to a very loud annoying noise. And its a great way to attract unwanted attention. In my area the unwanted attention always seems to come from the cops. They will write us a nice ticket for not having smog legal exhaust you probably dont have that problem. Its a benefit of living in California. I would suggest going and searching through Trubendz for a desired sound and a quality performance. It will answer a lot of your questions I think.

Yea,... www.trubendz.com has a large assortment of cat-back exhausts for a great price. Assuming you have a duratech (who knows cause you didnt say) you can optimize your y-pipe. That would fall under the free category, but it would also give your car a couple hours of down time. Pretty much if you don't want anything loud, I'd suggest running a resonator, as they tend to quite it down a lot. Why don't you tell us what car you have, engine, year, and you'll get more response's. Also try using the search feature on the top of the site. Search in performance, and type in "exhaust". This topic is brought up every other week.

PM Stazi, he has all the resonators you could ever want. I have three on my car, instead of one and two mufflers. Benefits?

-Low to no cabin drone.
-Resonators are not as deadening as mufflers
-Usually cheaper
and last but not least
-the sound shocks the guys with bigger engines
