I'm having a never-ending "vacuum leak" going on in my car. I've taken it to ford several times, taken it to other places as well, and i've done some work myself. The problem is still there. It seems I'm running out of options.
IF, I were to lift out the engine and rebuild the 2.5l, what upgrades would be worthwhile? headers? clutch/flywheel and lsd? I'd like to just get it 3l ready, and ride the 2.5 until it dies. It's late right now, i'm just pondering that idea. I mean, if i'm gonna have to rip apart the engine, why not just go all out? all i need now is some money. Totally hypothetical (for now). But what do u guys think?

HAve to rip apart engine? To fix a simple vac leak. There are only the green/red hard lines in the back and the lines that run to the valve covers. The only other source are the UIM/LIM gaskets. $30 for those and you could get a new set of hard lines from a junked car.

I don't know how simple it is... Ford couldn't put their finger on whether it was the intake manifold or heads. My associate couldn't either. And i definitely can't myself. I've noticed that i can control it though now. I can keep gassing it to keep it alive, but sometimes between having to break and keep the car from not stalling- it'll stall. Also noticed it seems to happen more when engine is hot, not as much when cold or has AC on. But yeah.... I haven't the slightest idea what it is at this point, I have enough time, i'm almost willing to take out the engine and put in a clean one. I've had TWO different sets of gaskets put on, the leak still comes through.

Seal up your throttle body, pull the vacuum connector from the brake booster, hook up a bicycle hand pump to the vacuum line going to the UIM and pump, you will hear where the air is leaking from... Fix the leaks!

Save some money and check car-parts.com for engines and do a 3L. Didnt you clean your UIM awhile back?
