I think they all suck. The towers that were there before were an instantly recognizable symbol of the city of New York. None of the options comes even close to replacing that. They are all boring re-do's of the same theme. They all lack spirit and creativity...

The twin towers that were there before, made a statement. Don'tcha think we need to make more of a statement with this, than just replacing lost retail & office space?

Re: the footprint memorial of sorts...keep it. I liked the one where one was enclosed and one was open w/greenspace. The enclosed could have a true memorial with the names of those killed, some of the debris, photos, etc.

My $.02 on the subject.

Why not build reflecting pools on the site of the old towers in a way to mirror two new majestic buildings? Everyone gets what they want. A memorial to the previous towers and two, new, finger pointing towers wink

Not sure how realistic this design is structurally but I like the looks of it, the memorial here is outstanding IMHO. Guys take a look at this option. I have no idea how much support this has but it's a far cry from any of the other pictures I saw in this post!

Opinions?

I like a few of the ideas. These are the people that are going to make the decision LMDC . I hear there is going to be a public forum on Saturday at the Javits Center. These are preliminary plans they are not the only ones available. Others will be considered.

On a side note, I work right next to ground zero and a plane flew low, looked like it was headed towards my building and half my office ran to get out. Scary **** to put it mildly.

What kind of plane flew low and close to your building? A Cessna or a 747?

It was a big plane 747, 737 I don't know. I went downstairs and I looked up now and again for about an hour. I saw about a dozen planes too low for my taste. I've seen planes in the air since that day, it always makes me a little leary but this one turned and was bearing down right on our building, very nasty I ran for the elevator and luckily the plane diverted to the west. Then, like I said I saw a dozen or so in the same vicinity once I was on the ground. I imagine Newark airport had to reroute some planes still that thing was too close for comfort, way too close. I would have thought planes were not allowed at that low an altitude that type of distance from Manhattan. Quite a day so far. Skies are pretty quiet right now, Thank God. My blood pressure is not quite as quiet though. frown

Don't want to highjack the thread (so to speak) here, please continue

I read a few of the NY newspaper articles concerning the ideas presented.

-Everyone says they are ideas and not representative of what will happen exactly.
-The designers had certain paramaters x amount of office space had to de was well as certain amounts of both retail and hotel space.
-It's also a good idea to consider the engineering limitations. With the WTC's aproximity to the subway, sea level, other buildings etc. Certain percautions and rules have to be followed.

With that said I think it would be a really neat idea to have one large U shaped building about 60 floors tall on three sides of this memorial park. The open side of the U would be facing the water.
