Hey Guys, I am getting a cable modem installed tommorow and I dont know much about it. They will install it to one computer but I need it on my downstairs computer also. They said I need a router to make the other one work. I have no way to run a networking cable from pc to pc so I need a wireless unit? Whats the cheapest online and where do I get something like this. I cant wait to get off this dial up stuff!

Thanks guys!

You can get a wireless router at any computer store like Best Buy or Circuit City. My friend got a Linksys one, and it works fine. Well, the 2nd ones does, 1st one was defective. Netgear also makes them, and I think D-Link does. Personally, I'd go with Netgear. They're a division of Bay Networks which has a very good reputation. I've never had any trouble with them.

I buy most of my computer stuff at newegg.com or mwave.com. They usually have the best prices, and I've had good results with their service in case anything needs to be returned or whatnot.

Staples/Best Buy/Office Max/etc.. sometimes run good deals on them from time to time with rebates.

From my understanding, you need the wireless router, and a wireless network card for each computer. Check out the local ads for deals on products. I noticed a few palces had them advertised this week. Or, check out the hot deals forums at www.fatwallet.com and http://forums.anandtech.com for some of the better prices.

I got a belkin router off ebay for $45! BRAND NEW!The local places around here wanted $80+ for them. Its not wireless though.
On A side note, every since I hooked it up my connection has been really slow.even when I have just one PC running, the second one not hooked up,or off.Any one have any ideas why?

Hey Guys, I was looking through the ads and saw Linksys or something like that on sale. I will probobly go that way. I hope its no too slow because that will mess up the whole concept of this high speed internet.

Thanks again.

A buddy of mine just bought a D-LINK 22Mpbs 802.11b cable/DSL router, 3-port switch, and wireless Access point all in one box, price was around $179 at BestBuy, you would still need a wireless USB or PCI card for your other PC, I set it up for him, didnt have a problem at all, it also included a built-in print server.
