I have a clunking on the driver's side front.

The sway bar is loose so that seems to be an obvious sign. I can move it - side to side but not up and down.

I think I need to do the "hose and clamp" mod.

What kind of hose should I use?

The swaybar end link(s) is the most likely culprit. Can't hurt to replace the swaybar bushings too. The endlinks are about $12.50 each at fordpartsonline.com and simply bolt on at each end. Replaced them on my 96 and all front end noises went away. smile

I did the hose mod using reinforced tubing that is usually used for water heaters. But the clunking turned out to be a loose brake caliper. Both fixed now- very happy those noises are gone.

And it only cost me $3.74 for the tubing and hose clamps...

I have the same problem, same location. I will look at the sway bar end links...

Has anyone replaced the engine mounts to successfully resolve this?

Mine turned out to be tie-rod ends. Not too hard of a replacement either.
