Don't know what the shift kits do, but a chip does wonders.

I was told by one the rebuilders in my cousins shop, don't waste you money until you need a rebuild. conservity "bang for the buck" bunch. But he also told me they normally use these kits as part of their rebuild, it makes it last longer.
The shifts makes for more positive shifts (less slippage) as engineered from factory. Most america buyers (non-technical types/non car-buffs) like those smooth shifts. Those folks actually thnik (due to marktering crap) that the soft shift is a better ATX. But we all know it's to sell more cars.

Rebuilder also told if I just had to have it done, he could do it in-vechicle? 6-7 hours labor give take, if I don't watch! Hi Hi!!!

I have heard good results. just don't talk about MerconV to anyone. They tend to flip out.

I put one in my friends 94 cougar W/4.6liter. We did the 2nd stage strip version(B&M kit). The car chirped the tires between shifts, He nearly [censored] his pants. I thought it was pretty sweet, if it works that good in a RWD car I would definately do it in a FWD car!

Oh good heavens, not the Mercon "V" snafu again?

I still haven't found out anything in my area. My dealers shop
will only commit to saying "what does the dip-stick say on it?"

getting advice from a Ford dealer usually isn't the best way to get advice.

Ditto...

There is much more information on Coutour.org
than any dealer will know or admit to...
