I found this under Maintenance, thought it would be answered better here.

I lost my transaxle last night, (99 CSVT) and need to replace it. Question is, before I take it to a repair shop I need to know what the differences are between a CSVT trans if any as compared to a standard Contour transaxle?
I have been told the clutch is larger (may as well replace while it is out) but is the transaxle itself any different? Is there a stronger unit to replace it with?
I only got 5 runs out of the car before it blew. I have owned it since it had only 18K on it and this is the first time I have ever drag raced it. I was only coming out of the hole at 3K. It still has reverse but that is it!
I need the infor ASAP so I can get it into a shop.
Thanks

Everyone chime in at anytime!

pre 98 mtx-75 transmissions are rod shifts where as the post 98s are cable shift. I think 2000 mtx-75s got the better of the syncros as well. You are correct though that the svt's used a lighter flywheel and better clutch.

Does the Cougar trans bolt right in or do I have to modify?
