I've got a 2000 SVT.

This weekend I'm getting a new headunit (Sony CDX-M620) and speakers (Boston FX8) installed. I have the amp bypass wire from Crutchfield and when I told the shop that I had it, they looked at me funny and said they probably wouldn't need to or that I would want to bypass the amp.

Should I have the bypass installed or should I go through the amp?

Before anybody else says it...Bypass the factory amp. If the shop can't figure out what to do with the bypass harness, include the instructions and explain it very slowly laugh

Quick draw, Brian.

He's right, you want to bypass the factory amp. It will be the most sound improving thing you can do. It's very easy to do with that harness from Crutchfield. The amp is located behind the glove box and I'm sure the instructions are very thruough.

If you take it to a reputable shop, they will know exactly what to do. Trust me, you will want to by-pass the factory amplifier! If the shop you have chosen can't figure out how to by-pass the factory amplifier (with the instructions you have provided), then take it to another shop.

You have to call to get it as it is not listed on their web site.

I'm getting a new HU soon, and I'm going to be bypassing the factory amp. Is there a model # for the type of harness used in the contour?

I just told them I had a contour with "premium stereo" and said I needed an Amp Bypass thing or something. Less than a week later, I got this wire harness in the mail. We'll see how it works when I get installed tomorrow.
