start the car without the tach needle on. once the car is at idle, stick the needle back on where your car usually idles. i know i can come pretty dang close to guessing where my car is idling, especially with the poly roll resistor that lets me feel every dang vibration. depending on the shake, i can tell about where i am at. thats probably the closest you'll get. i think dealers can recalibrate for you if you want.
