Hey guys, new member here. I'm looking at getting a Contour from a local place, was wondering if you guys can tell me whether or not I should get a 95. They have any serious problems I need to be aware of, look out for? Thanks in advance guys.

I need to double check with the place, I haven't had a chance yet. Was listed in the local "auto finder". It claims "runs well", but who really knows what that means. I'll post more info when I get it.

Probably the most lux trim set around, especially in the LX and SE models, considering the level of features and quality of materials. My '95LX was cushy as could be. It's the only year that was OBD-1 compliant, and IIRC the exhaust manifolds for that year aren't the same as for later years. Vacuum-operated secondary throttles on the V6 (went to electrical for the rest of the model run), so it sounds pretty growly right at startup. Timing chain tensioners can be weak which causes a slight rattle from the timing chain cover, but I don't think it's anything more than a slight noise problem. Oh, and check the underhood wiring harnesses or the recall information. If you see any wiring insulation that's cracked or peeling, just say no.

Remember, that's all for the Duratec, optional on the LX. And yes, the 1995 LX was the best Contour ever.

I have a 1995 V6 5 speed GL base model with 273 000km. I bought the car 2 months ago in as is condition. The car runs like new,and the only problems I've had with the car have been regular wear and tear maintenance issues.
I used to have a '98 Mystique with a 4 cyl and auto,and I would take the 95 V6 5 speed anyday.
Definetly a good buy,but some 95s,with being a first year model might have some bugs, but since they're aging now,all of the warranty repairs and stuff should have already been looked after.

Transmission replaced 65,000 Waterpump (easy fix) 62,000 Intake seals(easy fix) 75,000
Walk away if the harnesses have not been replaced. Also get a mechanic to look at it by doing visuals and compression checks. Check the tranny fluid for metal chunks. Lesson learned on that one.
Inside the car, check the electronic windows for any regulator issues.
Overall, the car is nice and the ride is pretty good.

ALL of them... AKA the entire engine wiring harness.
Becomes brittle and cracks, exposing bare wires to fray, break, corrode, and short. ELECTRICAL GREMLINS GALORE. No starts, dying, wierd things that are nearly impossible for anyone to trace down.
