I was wondering what experiences or recommendations you gurus out here would have regarding tire size limitations. I checked Tire Rack's site for tires with the same size as the original on my 99 SVT (215/50/16) and there seems to be very little to choose from. My local tire shop said I could easily use a 225/50/16 with no clearance problems. Unfortunately I don't trust them completely. I had a set of Conti Extreme Contacts on my last car (95 Subaru SVX) and I loved them. Great handling, really quiet and great in the wet and snow. They are available in 225/50.16 but I don't want to drop the bread only to find out they won't work.

They are right. I had 225/50/16s on my car for a few months with no problems.

I've been running 225/50-16 (Yokohama AVS DB S2) on mine for a couple years now with absolutely no problems. However, I'm not happy with the bulging tire look, so on my next set I intend to go back to 215s (probably Falken Ziex 512s)

225/45R16's look way better - with a smaller sidewall and still not too far off from stock to cause speedo issues.

I agree that is the size to have for a Contiqugar. Too bad 225/50R16 is so much more common. There are a handful of tires that I really like that are 225/50R16 only.

I also have 225/50R16 tires on my SVT. They work great for me. Don't forget that you can also use 205/55R16 as that was the original size for the 98, both E0 and E1.

Actually E1's came with 215/50R16 KDW's from the factory.

They did not.
E0 came with Goodyear Eagle GSC and E1 came with Gooeyear Eagle F1, both in the same size, 205/55/ZR16. I remember them and I have the 98 E1 spec sheet.
