This may be an odd question. Does anybody else have a black SVT nameplate on their engine? Every other picture I have seen of a SVT motor has a red nameplate.

right, but i think what tod means is it was probably used on another SVT model prior to the Contour. since yours is such a low build number it would be very likely that ford would do that. and then eventually they came up with the new badge.
Kinda how in the 98 SVT Contour promo video, the car has mystique tails and a pre-98 center console.

Goonz had the same thing but he replaced it not knowing what he had. This came up a few weeks ago. The black plates were from the very first runs. My original car, #173 built 4/4/97 IIRC, however had the red badge so it changed before then.
