As a frequent visitor of off topic, I have to say my life is changed now.

I spend a bit more time with the family and a bit less time on the CEG.

Did I enjoy the time there? Yup, sure did. I would like to see the archives of the old forums, but I'm sure that will come with time as well.

However, I don't think the quality of my life has suffered from the lack of O/T.

And perhaps the hosts have experienced the same, (or will when things don't merit as much watching as they might now).

So I'm decidedly ambivalent (isn't that a hoot) about the whole off topic issue.

Now bring on the Contique pics, posts and tips.

Like they said, I came here to learn about my car, but what KEPT me here was all the other cool stuff. I mean, seriously, we drive small cheap Ford economy cars that they dont even MAKE anymore, how much more new stuff can we really find? Even the Honda forums have it beter than we do -- they still make their cars, and they have years of future updates to talk about. We, on the other hand, are stuck with what we've got. It makes it ESPECIALLY hard when we have the "USE THE EFFIN SEARCH!!" people who wont even DISCUSS something that's been talked about before. It's true that this may be a CDW car site, but when people know everything they want to know, there has to be something else that will keep them from leaving.

Personally, I didn't donate to the CEG to shoot the bull with people. It's Contour information I'm after, not what some perv thinks of Brittany, Christina, J-Lo or some other talentless eye candy.

BINGO! That's why I also donated $$ - for CONTOUR info. I did participate in Off topic every so often, but by no means was "Off Topic" the reason I was on CEG. Try www.off-topic.net if you want general discussion.

It's actually specified as a compact. And It's an upscale Escort, which, IMHO, is an economy car

You're trying to start a flame war when you're so adamantly against their avenue of creation. Take a step back, stop being a victim, and be as forthcoming as you can with the members regarding the CEG they've come to know and appreciate. I can't tell you how many times I've asked people what happened in my absence. NO ONE will tell me and I, ergo, have no reason to change my behavior or any reason to believe the website should be any different from before. You, following the stereotype, accuse me of not having "the facts" without relating them, and then expect me to have the same information you do when speaking my opinion. Get real.

I never made any assumptions or presupposition regarding the speed of the site. I asked questions. You've answered them, to a degree. Case closed. I don't know why you're making such a big deal out of it. If it seems like I'm throwing all this back in your face, it's for good reason since your entire post was griping about things I'd said. If my questions or opinion really bother you that much, feel free to hit me up on PM or AIM to discuss them away from the light of the public.

Well, the way you stated it really did sound like an insinuation. You said:

You never did ask ME where the two grand went -- I never got a PM about that. Soo.. it sounded like your were vaguely accusing us of some impropriety. I know now that's not what you meant, but at the time that is what Christy thought, and that's what I thought you were getting at.

So it was a misunderstanding. Let's all be more clear in the future. If anyone has a question about the site, don't hesitate to PM me. Please get the facts from me before posting on something of this nature. I promise to respond.

So until we have come to a decison about the OT forum, what are the rules about OT threads???

I wanted to post a couple of things, one topic being the GNX that was on eBay last week but I didn't bother as I couldn't decide where it should go. I'm sure most folks wouldn't have minded the post but in the end I didn't want to deal with any potential flames.

I've already been told to frequent other forums if I want to talk about other cars so ??????

I guess I'll add my .02....

I came here for info on my blown engine. I stayed because this site is, or was, a community. Lance, I fully appreciate and understand that this was not your original intent. But it happened.

I really am a believer in the maturity level here. Yes, there are squabbles, as in any family. But, the most interesting aspect of OT was that although we are a community united by one interest, our car, we are a also a gathering of like-minded people of other interests. And the coolest thing about this was that 90% of the time, OT was a collection of people who sort of thought like me. It is amazing that many of our thoughts and interests were common. When not, I found that the level of logic presented here was above that normally found on the net. It actually blew my mind, I was pleasantly surprised; I began to make CEG my FIRST choice for discourse and conversation.

There may not have been an attempt to create a "grand social experiment", but it happened and IMHO was largely a success. THAT is why a lot of people freaked when we were threatend to cease to exist.

OT or not, I am going to stick around and see what happens. I might be a troll now, but I still have opinions and knowledge to share. But I would like to see our community return. Many of our brains are wired alike, that's why we dig a car few appreciate. And that's why I enjoyed the OT so much.

Peace and love, no matter what tranpsires with the OT. But I miss it.

My 2cents (for anyone who cares, if there is anyone who cares)

-I seldom visited the old General forum as it was almost always over-poluted with garbage, IMO. This one is getting that way, and with the off-topic threads thrown in is becoming quite cluttered IMO.
-I have had a few questions and ideas that I thought should go into OT. Without an OT forum I just haven't posted these.
-Lance, you mentioned that we don't seem to be seeing the usual capacity that we had before the shut down, IMO, some of this might be due to the disaperance of OT, certain people aren't coming on as much (or at all) because of the absence of OT.
-I enjoyed OT virtually all the time, even when things got out of hand. There are many times where I got (or dispenced) advice about things not related to the contour. I trust (even though I have never met another CEGer) the people on here a great deal, I've based expensive decisions on what people here reccomend and always come away happy. I suppose I could find a forum related to that product and ask questions there, but I would much rather pick the minds of ppl I know I can trust.
-We are the CEG with the G obviously standing for Group. We are brought together by the common bond of our Contiques. I love my contour, but I love the sense of community here even more. I don't drop boatloads of money into my car as I have many other things to pay for (and expensive hobbies to boot) but I keep coming back here because of the people.
