DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT make any attempt to remove your speed limiter without replacing your tires with ones with the appropriate speed rating. Running tires for higher speeds than they are designed for is an excellent way to kill yourself.

When the governor kicks on it retards the fuel supply. I time this perfectly to screw myself. No engine power = no power brakes or steering. I almost made poopie of myself. I slowed down as needed but not without a near heart attack.
Why the hell would you clutch in at that speed? During high speed runs, I always brake first, then if the rpm gets too low I put in the clutch. BTW, even if the engine is off you'll still have a pump or two left in the brake that's power assisted. That's because the brake booster is still basically a vacuum.
I was kinda planning on coasting for a split second to take in the full effect of that speed without the noise of the engine. Point of the story was to show to others what happens when you do this.

i hate governers!!!!! my 91 s10 would run right around 140-150 range, not fully sure cause i had to have someone follow me in their stang with an aftermarket speedo to get an idea cause mine only went to 85, but that was a rush man 140 down a highway in maryland. i want my tour to do that, and yes i do have z rated tires, and had them on my s10

Funny thing happened to me. Driving down the highway and my speedo went out, found out it was the VSS Cable. After that when I hit the speed where the gov. normally kicked in I felt a slight hesitation and then it picked up again and didnt slop climbing until I slowed it myself. didnt know how fast i was going (since the speedo is out) but i was pushin 7k RPM's.(this was all on the track of course). I still havent put the VSS cable in.

That's like the idea of how I got rid of my speed limiter. Except I don't loose the speedo because I have cable driven VSS.
