would you free up hp by removing the black thing that covers the throttle bodY? The only thing i changed on my intake was everything from the air to the MAF sensor, everything from the MAF to the engine is stock. Should I get rid of the black part?

dude, mine never let off any fumes, nor did mine ever melt. hell it didnt even lose shape. all i did was sand it, paint it twice with ceramic paint and went on my way.... and another thing, if it lets off toxic fumes, how come i had it for over 2 years and am not dead? and why didn't i smell anything? or anyone else? and also, how the hell are they going to come into my a/c? granted i had no a/c for about 6 months since disconnecting the pulley, but still...
hrm....
btw, theres a 12 second *yeah* old RX7 with a PVC elbow for a SCOOP on it's carb.... it hasnt melted.

1 you got lucky 2 brad noon told of a guy with an escort who made a PVC intake and he DID have it melt on him. 3 the ceramic paint you did probably held in the fumes so I bet your engine was injesting them which is not good for the motor, like that matters now since your car is toast.

Read the characteristics of PVC plastic. It is NOT meant for automotive uses. The fumes would come in through your heater, not your a/c. I'm going to agree with ZetecRacing on this and say; the paint helped some, and the fumes were ingested by the engine.

mine never melted, never lost shape, nothing. stayed same. Never smelt any fumes. I seriously think if it does release fumes, it does it so slowly that it won't hurt me any more than anything else we encounter in our daily lives. Though my design wasn't smoothest or anything so my high end wasn't that great, but my homemade intake beats the CTA intake in low end because of less heat transfer and smaller diameter. If it anyone wants it, I'll sell it for real cheap, comes with filter.
