I've read a bit about oil filter Manufactures in various old threads and was surprised to read some say that Fram wasnâ??t all that great and that Motorcraft was much better. Is this true? It would be nice to see a chart with data on the effectiveness of various brands.
Does anyone know about Super Tech sold at Walmart?
What about Fram air filters?
Please comment.

More like all, not some. This has been discussed several times, including a thread just a couple weeks ago with a link to a multi brand comparison. So, search.

Never heard of Super Tech, but it sounds like a real cheapie. I'd definitely steer clear of it, especially if its a Wal-Mart brand. For the one or two dollars more you have to pay for a quality name brand filter, its well worth it. Skimping on oil or filter quality is poor judgement.

The supertech is actually a quality filter. Similar to a Purolator or Wix, IIRC. Check it out at the Bobistheoilguy.com and look for their oil filter forums...

One word: Motorcraft!
Why? It cost too damn much to pay for all of the law suits resulting from "engine damaged by poor quality oil filter". On top of that they sell plenty of those to have it fairly inexpensive. So why pay for something that is, in essence a good Motorcraf filter wrapped arround with some fancy "Gold this or that" promotional package? Same goes for plug wires. In 50$ bracket no one comes close to Ford Motorsport wires. On Mondeo group in UK, almost everyone came back to FM wires, after experiencing expensive "upgrades". And that's another reason to love this list, you can find this out before you spend your money on cr**p stuff!
Just my 2 cents

First off I see your in SE MI, come on out to one of our meets, like the one this weekend coming up and introduce yourself. As far as oil filters go, I agree with Demon. This is one area not to skimp on and why would you. The price may be double for synthetic but who cares, you can leave it in longer which saves you money Oil filters too, but they're usually 4x's the price of the "cheapies", $3.00 for the "cheapie" and $10-12.00 for the good ones, like Mobil 1 or K&N Gold. I've been using Mobil 1 almost exclusively since day one, although I've used Pure One once or twice though. BTW, the Wal-mart oil filter is probably made by some major manufacture, like Wix or Baldwin for example
