Not all filters are created equal, or there wouldn't be a discussion.
Motorcraft is a fine filter--probably the best in it's price range for our cars. Although there are many that are suitable.
For the hardcore car geek, there are four essential factors to consider in determining the "best" filter. Filtering efficiency at x microns, filter capacity, flow rate, and burst strength. Those $(2-digit) filters, in most cases, give you more of all of these things. Overkill? Maybe, but you're not just paying for "marketing."

The Motorcraft is definitely then number 2 choice. $3-4 for an excellent filter.
The only drawback is just like every other filter on the market sans one. It's only tested to 3GPM when our oil pump surpasses 10GPM at 5500rpm (think about 6k, 7k, 8k etc ) That's a heck of a lot of potential oil being forced through the small bypass valve. (unfiltered and superheated!)
Also with an oiling system as efficient as ours that 3GPM is likely in the 3000 rpm range. Maybe lower; Yikes
I run a K&N and it has given me the best oil analysis results.

Hey Demon - I was surprised at how good the motorcraft really was from the last thread! Do you know - is the following chart correct?
If so it appears the motorcraft / pure one cartridge not only filters well, but has great flow capability too.

K&N Gold for me too at the moment but I have used both Motorcraft & Mobil 1 filters before without issue.

I just love good discussion!
I forgot one important fact, a lot of you guys are driving SVT Fords. Well it could be that Motorcraft is not the "best" filter for the SVT, but get this, everything is a compromise. There is no good filtration without damaging the flow rate! So we all make compromises, want super filtration? Fine but do not expect a super flow rate of that filter and vice-versa. I believe that for non SVT Duratec' the Motorcraft offers best realtion between advantages and disadvantages (per Oli study mentioned here)in the oili filter construction. And combined with good oil and timely changes it should do fine. Other than that it's every man's game I guess.

Explain to me why the motorcraft is good for the non SVT 2.5 and not the SVT. They are both the 2.5 with the same redline and the same oiling system. The regular 2.5 revs just as high and as hard as the SVT.

Why SVT' are different form non-SVT?
Here is why:
Engine Specifications 2.5L 170 hp V6 2.5L 200 hp V6 Horsepower170 @ 6250 RPM 200 @ 6600 RPM Torque 165 @ 4250 RPM 169 @ 5500 RPM
More rpm more oil must flow trough the oil galeires and oil system (or same ammount of oil in less time = higher oli pressure). And I never said that the Motorcraft is not good for SVT engines I said that it may not be the "best" filter. Filter studies have showed that Motorcraft filters are not exceptionaly strong when it comes to mechanical construction, which is fine for the regular cars, but and more load on the filter and you may have trouble. Probably nothing will happen but why risk it?

I have yet to see proof as to why its not as good for the SVT engine. The peak HP and torque are at different RPMs. Whats that have to do with anything? They have the SAME redline. So by your logic the standard 2.5 owner doesnt rev past 6250 rpm because thats where the horsepower peaks??
