That's weird. Some people are getting them eventhough he said they haven't shipped yet? My FedEx number isn't recognized yet, going along with what Andreas is saying.

For those who are ordering hood struts for a Fiberglass or CF hood, I would read this email I got back from Brian (the owner of Redline Tuning) after I asked him if my "regular force" struts will work if I decide to get an aftermarket CF/Fiberglass hood in the future and it explains how their struts will work with CF/Fiberglass hoods. Hope this helps some of you that are undecided

Thanks for writing and feel free to post this if you feel others might have
similar questions...
__We originally design every hood QuickLIFT system to work with the stock
hood - primarily because we need to design around vehicle to fit the
QuickLIFT to the vehicle properly and ensure that the system meets all of
our standards. That being said, we have designed custom rivets for our
systems - these are used in 'most' of our QuickLIFT systems. These
multi-grip rivets spread out when compressed and bind our hood brackets to
any material, including carbon fiber, SMC, Aluminum, steel, fiberglass etc.
Our intention is to design a QuickLIFT system that works with any hood.
__Well, as you might also read in our FAQ online (recommended to read
http://www.redlinetuning.com/QL-tips.html), most aftermarket hood companies
copy the stock hood understructure (frame) and then just mold a new hood
skin on top of the copy. This means that most all of these hoods will work
fine with our system because there will not be a clearance problem. There
are exceptions, but only about 1% don't work, and primarily because they are
not very good.
__The weight of the hood is also generally not a factor. Our gas-springs
are custom designed to release very slowly over the last few inches of lift
- this allows for a very gentle rise and puts even less stress on the hood.
Also, most after market hoods are not always lighter - though some carbon
fiber units can weigh in at half the original, most are close to the stock
weight. This is because most beef up the hood frame with fiberglass and it
isn't very light. The location we chose to mount the hood bracket is
generally near the midpoint - meaning that there is very little stress on
the hood. So, regardless of the hood type, our QuickLIFT system will work.
Sometimes we will recommend a light force gas spring, but in almost all
cases we do not.

The struts may "work" w/ a CF hood but I think the other main issue is this:

The threads on my carbon fiber hood are different than the ones on my stock hood. :shrug: The Redline ball fasteners are made for the stock hood and wouldn't fit my CF hood even if I wanted to use them. So basically it looks like it may come down to the thread and pitch. Unfortunately I cannot check mine and compare it to the stock hood as it is not accessible at the moment. Does anyone w/ a CF EVO hood or FG EVO hood know if the "threads"/mounting area is the same as the stock hood.

I may have to send a PM to NVMYSVT to see what the thread and pitch is.

Mine came in today. had them on the car within a half hour of getting home from work :laugh: :cool:
 
To those that need to know, I was speaking w/ NVMYSVT since we both have the same EVO hood that was from the original GB years back (hers being the FG version and mine being the CF version) to see what the mounting hardware looked like. Anyway here is what she said....

the fiberglass hood that you can get from extreme dimensions and Andy's autosport is not the same I believe.

As far as hardware all the same stock hardware transfers over from the stock hood... I did not replace anything or change any of the bolts... its a direct fit -- takes the same 10mm bolts.

Andreas, so it looks like the stock hood bolts will work on my CF hood. That being said, I should have no problem w/ mounting/functionality w/ the "lower force" kit correct?


Just wanted to clear this up in case anyone else is running this hood from Wayson.
