Is there anyone in the GTA/Barrie/North of Toronto area that we know of that knows alot about the 3.0L engine swap?

I've just picked up an SVT for cheap, it was running fine when I got it, got it home and all of a sudden it sounds like I've spun a rod bearing :nonono:.

I bought it for a point A to point B ride for school/work, lol, and now it doesn't seem it'll be useful for that purpose until its fixed.

I've read some other threads about the 3.0l swap, but they aren't that discriptive, and I'm a little bit of a laymans, I could do the work, but I could use some direction in the process, lol.

Well i hve done 2 oval ports and 2 2.5L swaps at this point. The split port 3L is about the same as doing a 2.5L. i can give you some guidance if you would like, i won't have much spare time to run out and help but we can see what we can do.

hardest part to find is the engine hoist so you don't have to buy one.

if you need guidance, Id say contact Reebs or bagged, both members on this forum. Both have done their fair share of 3L swaps, lol. they both live in michigan though but have all the knowledge you need/want

Yea I've sifted through the Faqs, here, NECO, fordcontour.org, etc etc, lol. There's some conflicting answers, theories.

From what I've been reading the ported 3L is a good way to go in terms of minimal modification (I dont mind the machining to have them match up), then using Bugzaki plates. Correct me if I'm wrong on this one.

I just dont have the time (school/work) to be doing other modifications, and I'm probably lacking in the skill department for them.

I've heard the straight 3L swaps involve fuel rail modification, EGR valve changes, etc etc.

I'd like to avoid a hybrid set-up all together.

For referrence the car's a 98 SVT, so I believe it has the return-style fuel system.

Thanks again guys.

Oh, I'd also be willing for pay for help, if that counts for anything, haha. I could imagine a couple people might be able to bang it out in a weekend.

Mani and his brother have done lots of these swaps and these are the guys to go to if you are looking to have it done for you.

The full oval port swap is a less time consuming swap as the modifications are simple and cheap. The fuel rail does need to be cut and welded to work and the TPS wiring has to be extended. After that its just cutting and installing your own vacuum lines.

And a $500 price tag on getting an x-cal with a tune to make that full 3l.

I ran my full 3L untuned for almost a year without issues. Yes the tune did make a large difference but it didn't blow up because of it.

My (ex)Boyfriend and I did my FUll 3L swap, 2 times nows. It's a lot of work. Lots of reading involved when we did it. If you havent done a swap or large modifications before, i wouldnt attempt it lol.
To bad you wheren't closer to London area, He'd probably help you out. sorry I no thats not much help lol.

Also ive been driving my car untuned...its fine without a tune...that can come later if you really want.

Thanks Guys

I've been messaged by bagged, who seems like a great guy, but taking the car accross the border is an issue now (no passport) and I've messaged Mani, but he hasn't gotten back to me.

Right now it doesn't seem like its a bearing issue, it sounds more like timing chains, it doesn't happen all the time (doesn't do it at idle, only under load and off load, and it won't do it when the engines cold, has to run for at least 5 mins)

From everything I've been reading, it almost seems like going full 3L would be the most reliable in the long run, despite the extra work involved. I'd run it without a tune for a little while and then get it done, its more or less going to a DD, so maybe having seperate tunes for 87 and 91(94) would be a neat idea.

Sarah, I'd be willing to travel anywhere, haha. although I'm not sure how long a job like that would take. Just finding engines in my area for the same prices that have been quoted by other members from the States, is an issue. For a decent Escape engine, they want $1500, and I laughed at them, lol.

I did a port matched 3L I kept my 04 cams which felt fine and didn't seam to loose power at the upper rpms I kept the taurus oil pan and just drilled 2 new holes for the trans after all the other mods that is the easiest thing I modded. I didn't find porting to be hard or time consuming but you have to have the right bit a rotary file type bit an engine hoist can be borrowed or rented also a cable come along and a beam will work though it may not be the easiest

you will need a good grinder and a swazall and drill and a good metric set and the ability get out rusted hardware something will break
good luck not a bad swap if you take your time.

if you want it done quick pay someone to do it
