Yup! Definite upgrade from the Cav, almost poor-man drifted it this afternoon. Needed to stretch my foot and there was a car coming to the intersection where I needed to turn...felt like it pushed a bit but it was not a way-cool moment.

Definite on the Mazda 5, I started wanting one but the prices were kinda high for the older body style still and they were offering $5000 TI (trade in) for the $495 TI value on the cavi soooooo after thinking about it and the 10yr 100,000 mi warranty, and then smelling what the inside of the cavi smells like after a good rain (yup it was leaking) and then the smell of a brand new Spectra5, it became clearer....hahahaha. I couldn't believe they were coming from the factory with a mess of (options) I could have gotten the sportier vs than the sport vs that I have. Lowered susp on I think Koni's and eibachs....not too sure....this one already has the sport suspension with the strut brace added and a whole list of other goodies...next upgrade will be an HID conversion....wife is calling for dinner

The more I take apart this engine, the more problems I find. Basically, I have two options: 1) complete rebuild the 4AC engine, ~72hp stock carb'd motor or 2) Jap 4AGE 20V swap for ~165hp. Decisions decisions. :(

Yes those are independant throttle bodies. A black top JDM 4AGE has no MAF so they can be run open like this or with only velocity stacks. The black top also has lighter con-rods than the silver tops so it has a 8500rpm redline which nets 165hp versus the silver top's 8000rpm/160hp from what I've read.

im with everyone else here man do the swap. IDK if you still have my nuber or not but hit me up if you want a hand with it sometime I don't care to come down your way.

Oh yeah that's definitely what I want to do no doubt about it. But it comes down to money. I don't have the coin. I'm going to clean up the car and part out everything not needed and try to raise money. Sort of a AE86 bake sale. ;) See I got laid off from my real job last month and my wife has been on unemployment since February. I'm working part time at Pep Boys just to get by, so dropping extra cash just isn't in my near future. :(

Shaddup OB1, I'm way more tolerable than you give me credit. Remember, I've got culture like a moddafounkah! All I gotta do is pull up in a sweet drop and panties rain from the skirts.

Nah Trey I don't have your number anymore. Maybe we can work out a part out session and take this thing apart and catalog each part to sell online.

8 6 5 4 0 6 8 7 7 0 hit me up anytime man.

I got independent TBs on my Samurai. It's freakin' awesome and they scream! Would be AWESOME in a car I'm sure. Mine are off of a GSXR motorcycle. The black box on top is a coolant passage that was needed because the t-stat was housed in the manifold.

That is cool....Suzuki motorcycle parts fit on your Suzuki vehicle!

That was not an easy swap. Required a lot of custom fabbed pieces (not made by me) to get running correctly. An entirely new intake manifold, cooling manifold, fuel delivery, etc.

Sounds wicked though and the throttle response is great! Gotta love a straight shot to the valves.

I used to own an '86... Before I sold it you couldn't drive in OD cause it would bog the engine. Stock everything. Mine felt like it had about 30hp, maybe... Let me tell you what, 4L is a beast though... Pull almost anything or drive through anything.

I say JDM then build the cash back up to force feed it.

I wanna see the day someone puts a turbo or a supercharger on a Prius

HAHAHAHA

Apparantly ya'll missed the part about where I got laid off! My pockets are more shallow than Spencer Pratt. (yes I went there)

Other options have come up though: basically any variation of the 4ac/4ag/4age/4agze engines' head will bolt directly to any block in that list. Which includes single cam 8v, twin cam 16v, twin cam 20v, and twin cam 16v supercharged. I can get any head and bolt it on.
I have heard (but haven't found yet) carb kits for 16v twin cam engines. I can get tons and tons and tons of aftermarket parts for the 16v GTS engine; which is basically a different head on my block.

So my new plan is this: source a near shot 16v head and repair it with new goodies. I mean crazy cams, adjustable gears, hell I think someone even makes titanium valve springs for it. (yes I went there too) Rebuild the head, get it spiffy. Barring some new damage to my block, I'll rebuild it to 4AGE JDM specs with lighter rods and pistons. I'll probably have the crank re-done while it's out so the bottom end will be all new, too. Then all I'll need is this magical 16v carb manifold and I'm golden.

With a 16v head, my engine will essentially be a carb'd GTS engine, alledgedly close to around 120hp with a good tune job. We'll see. ;)

Although my ideal swap would definitely be a SR20DET, that's just not in the cards. That kind of power would require a new rear end immediately. The stock open diff and skinny axles won't handle the SR's torque. A carb'd 16v is still within the realm of abiltity for the stock rear end.

Well hell. Dual Weber carb set-up for a 4AGE runs about $1300; a new Weber carb for my motor alone runs $300 which ain't too bad. Paradise Racing makes killer parts for my current 4AC engine, but add it all up and damn I could just go JDM. Guess I'll keep watching the junkyards. I saw a SC'd MR2 that was totalled in the front sell for $1400 on a insurance auction site. Shoulda picked it up. :(
