SVT radiators obsolete

What the **** are you guys talking about. I work at a automotive store and I can still get them aftermarket. Aprox $200 canadian

Let me guess, you looked up Contour SVT, radiator, and it just came right up.

All parts databases show the SE radiator as the replacement for SVT. Not the same.

LMAO! Order that SVT radiator up if you're so confident and let us know what it's measurements are. If you work at an auto parts store you should be smart enough to know what is listed in the computer is correct about 60% of the time. Sure it will work but it's not optimal.

Yep. Posted on the old forums by Demon and myself. Not searching.
Boo! I searched and searched and didn't find anything from you or Demon. The only posts I saw from you said the SVT rad was 44mm thick. I found 1 post in the old old archives that gave all 3 dimensions... but that 1 post doesn't give me much confidence in those numbers.

This is not the correct Radiator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Notice the gold bung fttings on the passenger side end tank?
Those are for the Automatic Trans cooler.
Yes it would work on the SVT as a replacement, but as stated in previous replies, why would you want it?
Other than the thickness (44mm SVT) versus the single core unit pictured here, the dimensions are going to be very similar. The end tank sizes on the SVT unit are a little larger than what is pictured. But the mounting pins (plastic) are located in the same area and the dimensions in length and heighth of the aluminum core is going to be identical. Only the depth will be different in the SVT model as stated. Hope this helps.

Here are the dimensions of the above SE radiator:
Core Size 24 3/8 x 15 5/8 x 1 Rows 1
Tank Inlet 2 x 16 Tank Outlet 3 x 16
Inlet Conn 1 3/8 Top Left Outlet Conn 1 3/8 Bottom Right
Trans Oil Cooler 12 Engine Oil Cooler n/a
Construction Plastic Tank & Aluminum Core
Mounting Pin

Thanks! Griffin said they could do single runs for around $500-530.. complete with mounting posts and condenser hooks & bottom brackets. That price would go down if more people are interested. I'll try to find an SE MTX radiator in the junk yard for them to copy. Since the SVT is only 16mm thicker than the non-SVT... I think doubling that difference to be ~60mm (or 2-3/8" to be exact) thick would be good. If the post locations are maintained, there's enough room in front of the condenser for that extra 5/8". The fans are already pretty close to the headers, so I don't think it should be extended that way.

Funny that the guy was surprised they never made a radiator for the CSVT... that they've always produced aftermarket rads for SVTs. Everyone forgets about the CSVT though :(. He did say they would be happy to fill the current CSVT radiator supply gap and give it it's own part # for future purchases..

And another gripe about searching and measurements. Pretty much all discussions about SVT vs non-SVT radiators says the SVT rad is double (or almost) the size. If it were double the size, it would be 56mm thick... not 44mm.

Not to bad a price really. I couldn't go thicker as I have a oil cooler mounted in front of the condensor. FYI the other nite I ordered a radiator from an online parts store. They swore up and down it was for an SVT only and that it was an OEM peice. We shall see. Oh ya I paid $129 shipped! I am a little leary, but its worth a shot. 29 day return policy and 1 year warranty.

well then i'll have to come over and help you break it:laugh:

i did some research in to the rad and it's a "problem slolver" rad. It's a beefed up 2.5se rad that does both applications. It works as a HD rad for a SE and a rad for the SVT.

I don't need any help with that. This is rad #4:blackeye: . As long as no large rodent gets in m garage before I install it, I should be ok:laugh: .

On another note. I received the radiator yesterday. As suspected it is the wrong one. So its going back. Probaly pick up a nice used one. Unless anyone has a new one around, pm me we can deal.

The way this needs to be worked is to enforce to Griifin the fact that a "Heavy Duty" unit replacement in SVT Dimensions or better, would be beneficial to not only the Contour SVT line-up but the whole contour and Cougar line-up as well. They would be offering a great upgraded part that is currently obsolete and to more than just our market. They don't need to do single production runs but produce it in mass.

Can some one here who owns or has access to an escape give a looksee under the hood and check the mounting position? That would be helpful as well.

FWIW the SVT radiator is +14mm thicker than the SE. The SE rad is 1" or 26mm. i.e. the SVT rad is 40 mm. Around a 1/2" deeper.

The previous owner of my lexus had a Griffin radiator made for my GS3 before I bought it. It appeared to be excellent construction and the fit was perfect. The only gripe I've ever heard about Griffin was something about them using epoxy in the corners or something. I don't remember exactly what the deal was. It was a shame the hoses wouldn't line up right when I switched engines or I would have never gotten rid of it.

non-SVT Contours, Mystiques, and Cougars.... as long as they're for MTX & A/C, should all be the same.

Back when I had a 1985 z-28, I got a Griffin for it. The quality appeared to be top notch and I never had any leaking problems. I've been trying to find a radiator from a junk yard that's cheap enough, so I don't have to worry about them returning it. Most I've found are for ATX's though.
