Contour SVT Name

I just wish they had fixed some of the stupid problems, like oil drainback on a car that is supposed to see corners... makes no sense.

If they had a beefed up diff and clutch then it would have been a better car.. why not put a damn LSD in a car that is supposed to corner, especially when the stock one is a brittle POS.

Quoted from the book "Powered By SVT"

"One surprise upon the car's release was that the SVT Contour did not have a unique name. There was the SVT Mustang Cobra and the SVT F-150 Lightning. Why was this car jus dubbed SVT Contour?

'It's a weird thing. It was supposed to haev a special name.' said Clor. 'Tim Boyd, the marketing manager at the time, was hot on European names. He wanted something Italian. One of the names was Vetessa, an old Alfa name.' Also nominated were the SVT Contour Verde and th SVT Contour Ghia. Clor said they narrowed it down to six good names, but the team couldn't come to a consensus so ultimately they decided to just call it the SVT Contour, a move he says became a public relations nightmare over time. 'For some reason, everyone called it the Contour SVT.' Clor remembers"

They ran decent in stock form but needed more power (why didnt we just get the 3L to begin with???

Pick up the book "Powered by SVT" (you can order it from SVTOA.com I believe).

It will answer all these questions and more.
Like why the snorkel in the fender well was enlarged, but the hole going THROUGH the fender is the same size as a regular Contour.

Not going to tell... :p

I searched for it over there and I can't seem to find it. Can you point me in a better direction. I would really love to have this book.

You can call 1-877-837-2582 and order it for $34.95 + S&H (if they still have them). This is also the same number you can call to order your COA.

I see where you are coming from. But, you can't say a Terminator is worthless.

They look awesome and would be an absolute thrill to drive or even drive in, but they're just not my thing.

Honestly, I think I'd get bored very quickly. Mustangs may be fast, but I don't personally enjoy the rest of the driving experience. I prefer lighter and more nimble cars.

But to each their own.

If I recall correctly, didn't the CSVT have the highest horsepower to cylinder ration of any NA built that year? That is saying something about it....

The Integra type R was putting down 200hp out of a 4cyl that same year. It wasn't the highest output per Liter, but pushing close to 100hp per liter from any NA engine is an accomplishment.

really? I thought they only had like 180 at the crank or 190. as for the name, how about puma or vespa?

yup, the 1.8 type R motor, B1285475283 or something, put out 195hp.

the 2.5, 98 CSVT, put out 195. And then was bumped to 200hp.

But actually.

The Contour and the Focus were pathetic attempts at performance cars.

They ran decent in stock form but needed more power (why didnt we just get the 3L to begin with??? Why no LSD??? Why is the clutch crappy???)

The Cobra and Lightning actually made decent power and had beefed up everything.

Just my .02

Plus, what would you call the contour? It's a 4 door sedan FFS, it cant really have a "cool" name like Cobra or Lightning.

oooo...cool guy now has a purple cobra and can bad mouth his old car that now sucks because he drives a v8...real cool

no wonder no one on here likes you...

Jealousy is hilarious.

Just because it is the truth dosent mean i never liked my contour. It's a great car, but it could have been so much better.

Its worth noting that the Acura/Honda powerplant was a gutless worm in the low end, and needed to have the heck revved out of it for real response. You could make more torque pissing into a pinwheel.

The 2.5L SVT engine is no Ford 460 for torque, but it is a much more balanced affair and has a far more satisfying midrange, as well as top end.

Kudos to Ford for giving us a quality six.
