While I was opening up the headlight switch from my 96SE I noticed that there was a lightbulb inside the switch. After giving up on trying to wire up a LED in the switch I found a place online that sells the correct size bulb with a LED in it. I also had run new wires in the harness to power the light since it was also decontented(sp).
Enough jibber jabber here are the pics. (kinda blury could get new camera to focus).

Also picked up new LEDs for the License plate lights.

Yep, done the same thing. But you seemed to replace the bulb, I took out the bulb and made holes for the LEDs(2) and wired them up. It turn out very nice. Great job.

it looks good...but seriously, this is not a new mod. I was scrapin' off the green and hardwiring' led's in there when you were sucklin' your momma's teet!

For the plates did you use a festoon style 12v led? let me know because I have been looking into doing this for quite sometime.

Thanks

I did the same with mine a while ago with a red LED.

The red bulb just wasn't cutting it. It turned orange from the heat of the bulb. The red LED is bright and nice and cool.

I didn't know there was a bulb in the headlight switch to light up the marker, and the foglight symbol. Would this be true in my 98 SVT too? Would I just replace the bulb?

Thanks,
Adam

I went to www.autolumination.com and bought the 39mm size for the plates, and a 44mm for the trunk light. I also picked up the LED for the headlight switch from here too. I used the BA7s inverted bulb. You can find those here BA7s Base LEDs

do you just pull the knob off to access the bulb? or what? I don't want to break anything. :)

Yup, there is a small hole on the bottom of the switch. Find a very tiny screw driver or anything that will fit in the hole and push up, while you are doing that pull the knob outward and it should release. If there is a bulb in there just push in and turn, I found it easier to use needle nose plyers (hard to get my fingers on it).

Popped off the switch dont see a bulb. I see the white inner body and the frame for the switch. Is it in the middle of the black frame?

I'm not sure why he told you to take off the knob. You can't access it from there at all. The knob never needs to come off for bulb replacement.

The switch assembly needs to be removed to get to the bulb. Remove the lower panel under the steering wheel where the steering column runs down. You'll then see 2 screws for the black headlight switch bezel. Unscrew and remove the bezel. The switch will come forward with the bezel and you'll see the bulb. Twist to unlock the bulb.
