Quick and Easy Sound Dampening

I was thinking of doing my whole floor under the carpet... just to cut down on road noise and to make the stereo sound clearer. Couldn't really do that all in Dynamat though.

I plan on using some type of sound dampening material on my trunklid.

I found that the worst rattle from INSIDE the car came from the third brake like. I tried stuffing foam under it... didn't help. After further investigation, I found that it was the red strip inside the third brake like that was making all the noise. My solution was making a third brake light of all red LED's, soldering them in, and removing the red strip. I took it one step further and painted the chrome third brake light black and then tinted 35% over it. It made the third brake light stealth, but can still be seen very clearly when lit up. Probably even better than before. And it now lights up 9 red dots instead of one big strip. Worked out perfectly!

Do you have pictures of the light? I think most of my rattle is coming from my sunroof/dome light housing as well as my radar detector...

I have really crappy pics. I can get better pics in a couple weeks
Here it is in chrome:

My radar detector was also rattling so I mounted it about my mirror (stealthy) and hardwired it there. I then placed the female side of velcro underneath it where it rested on the mirror itself. Worked nicely.

That's pretty boss. You never wrote me back about buying the extra you made though?

Did my trunk for less than $100 total. I used this stuff mostly. Less then $20 for a roll at Home Depot. Pretty much the same stuff as Dynamat.

This is some insulating material from the roofing section. It doesnt have an adhesive backing so I laid down a thick layer of E Dead and stuck this stuff to it. Dont remember the price, IIRC it was around $20 for a big roll. Yeah I know its dirty in there :blackeye:

This is the stuff from the first picture. The front wall of the trunk is almost finished here. You can also see part of my new rear strut bar I made that follows the curves of the trunk so it would not be in the way of my SPL12 and box.

And a little more of both on the side of the trunk, almost finished.

All of this made a huge difference, IMO well worth the money and WAY cheaper than Dynamat.

I tried the roofing stuff. I even let it sit out on a hot day layed across my driveway to get it REALLY sticky.

Well, after a month or so, it all started coming of and falling. So I ripped it all out and threw it away.

I had the same experience with another brand, cant remember the name. This stuff has not moved in 2 years.
