the battery light comes on when I am driving WOT and hit 5750-6000 rpms. I have had a new alternator, and new belt put on, does anyone know what can cause this. I've tried to get help a few times, but to no avail.

Mechanic says tensioner is good.

Also, when i shift hard, the belt slips and squeeks as well.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Black tape to put over the battery light.

A non-slick belt dressing, lightly applied, might create some tractive force between the belt and the pulley by adding a little flexibility and grip to an otherwise dry belt. Based on what you've replaced, that appears to be the only issue left.

It never happened, until the last time they repalced the alternator... so something has to be a miss somewhere?!

Was it a Motorcraft or afermarket belt? Could just a little too long and is slipping at high speeds.

Was it wet or raining when this happens?
no, happens all the time... and i dont know if its a motorcraft or not, but it didnt happen with the belt i got from BAT with my DMD

so maybe i need a new belt! I've been through 3 alternators ever since this though! WARRANTY FTW though!

well at higher speeds a weak tensioner will lose its tension, might not notice it at idle or by grabbing up on the belt. i had a supercoupe and couldnt figure out the low boost issue, belt seemed fine, fixed all the ic'r leaks. went to put a smaller blower pulley on it and noticed the tensioner wasnt as stiff as the other side,so i had some one rev it high while i watched...sure enough in the upper rpms the tensioner would give slightly. just a shot in the dark.

i think i'll get a new tensioner and belt, change it, and see if it helps at all...

a COMPLETELY viable option is that your REPLACEMENT alternator is crap (a TON of them fail right out of the BOX!!!!) if it wasn't a NEW OEM brand, and was a remanufactured one from a parts store, etc.

If you Contour has over 100K replace the belt tensioner, they are relatively cheap and relatively easy to install. Also replace your belt with a good quality brand (Gates, Dayco, Etc...) or an OEM Motorcraft.
