1998 ford contour svt

So I have had the wiring fixed. One of the wires was 12v and they are telling me the computer needs to be replaced and re-encoded at the dealer to get rid of the p1518 code. Everything else checks out. They say the wiring is bad and only a matter of time so the harness should be replaced. Do you guys think this sounds about right? How much to get a new computer and get it reset at the dealer?

a place near my house said that I should flash the computer first for $125 and see if that fixes it first beofr replacing the comp for $175 plus the part cost. sound right? They said only a couple places in the city can flash the ecm besides the dealer.

Sounds like a bunch of BS. I don't think I've seen anyone ever need to replace or reflash the computer for this.

If they're willing to do the work for free if it doesn't fix it, go for it, otherwise save your money.

I still think you are wasting your time and money on an ECU. If you really want to try it, just buy one from someone on here.

RJL1 is the code you need. Don't install anything that was tuned for a non-SVT or you're asking for more check engine codes. There are many differences in the tuning and anything listed as compatible for both is 100% wrong.

I think I will try to get the wiring harness installed. Having trouble finding a garage that will even do the job. Anyone know of someone that can do the job or has experience with this in the Chicago area?

thanks

yes thanks. I left a message a couple of days ago but I have not heard back from him.

Hes a busy guy Ill talk to him to make sure he gets back to you. Now pm me and let me know when you will be picking up a harness. you dont need to swap ecus at all for any reason.
